"Papers Please" at Salute 2017
« on: April 23, 2017, 02:07:51 PM »
Well having been through other folk's photos and not yet seen one of my table, not sure what I did wrong guys  I even had a bath beforehand ::). here's a few snaps.

A mixture of the old "Escape from Colditz" boardgame and the scene from "The Great Escape" where they're trying to get on a bus. Features the building from our first Kickstarter, and the roads from the Kickstarter running at the moment. We enjoyed nothing but positive feedback for both and the game, out of the twenty four players of six games just five managed it.

That's a lovely looking board. I think my favourite of all the photos I've seen so far.  8)

Thanks gents, very generous.

I hacked together some rules, one A4 sheet, plus 26 escapee cards and 12 security cards. Here's the rules, if anyone wants the cards give me a shout.

We swopped out having cards picked up around the board, because the relevant props weren't ready to a card at the beginning of the turn, this helped keep the game going at a healthy pace.

That's not only a particularly nice looking board but also a great idea for a participation "war"game. Love it!
Wouldn't mind if you sent me the cards… ;)

I very much like it too. And I already have a board of a Belgian town in which it could be played.  8)

I would very much appreciate a copy of the cards and will PM you my email.

Thanks, and I hope more photos emerge.  ;)

No worries I'll post them up here.

I print these out nine to an A4 sheet, which if you cut close to the lines you can mount them onto standard playing cards and cover most of the card. I do this so the two types can be assigned different colours, 26 escapee on red & 13 for security on black, and you can still see a bit of colour on the face and tell which is which type, and it's easier for sorting them out.

Security Cards, sadly missed the "Good Luck" card for the Gestapo at the bus... I was tired.

I did actually see that as I raced by, Phil - thought at a glance it looked very tidy.
Had I known it was yours, I'd have stopped and taken it in properly...

The grisly truth is, as you know, there's just too much to see and take in. I was there for around 5 hours, during which time I spent about 2 hours bumping into people and chatting, 2 hours shopping at various trade stands, and an hour getting between all the aforementioned encounters and tradestands.
I literally spent probably no more than 10 minutes stopping to look at the few showpiece games that really caught my eye. It's all too easy to miss the smaller ones. Just a glance here and there as I roll by...  :(

On reflection - it's simply not good enough. In future I'm going to try to carve out more time to stop and look at the actual games. Sadly, after a few hours in that place, I just want to get out by mid-afternoon...

Quite, a hectic day just visiting, the more you try to do the more hectic it gets. I second that emotion, by three I just wanted out.

I like the idea of this and I'll bet it was enjoyed by all. You could use the premise for all sorts of things including an Allo Allo style game featuring smuggled paintings or escaping airmen.

Exactly. Change the names of the cards it'd fit any genre too.
