Looking for 28mm 1970's Explorers
« on: May 02, 2017, 06:28:38 PM »
Hi All,

New to this modern era of war-gaming. I know there are LOTS of manufacturers of various soldiers and paramilitary types. I'm looking for these types of personalities in 28mm to represent the explorers of a lost island.

- Leading man - a pilot really; tough, daring, the leader. Handgun somewhere on him preferably. Could be wearing flight jacket or not.
- photo-journalist (unarmed) - would love to see the camera, even better if there's a camera bag slung over the shoulder.
- scientist (unarmed) - doesn't need to be lab coat. just regular unarmed civilian I guess, maybe carrying satchel or kit of some sort.
- seaman (unarmed) - not necessarily navy; just a tough guy who's made his living on the sea as an able seaman
- hunter - would like to be armed with a rifle., look outdoorsy, if such a thing exists.
- company man (perhaps with a pistol? or not)- the guy on the board who's funding the expedition. could be the stereotypical overweight guy who looks like he's dressed to go on a fly-fishing trip, or not.

I've been test-playing with stand-in models but I'm looking to start thinking about collecting actual models soon-ish.

Thanks - JET

These might be worth a look:

I have some, they look nice but I have not got round to doing anything with them.

Fenris look like very nice figures but their Apex Investigators Sets always seems to be "out of Stock"...
A CANADIAN local hobby store with a small selection of historical wargames miniatures (mainly from Warlords). They also have a great selection of paint and hobby accessories from Vallejo, Army painter, AK Interactive, Green Stuff World and more.; https://www.kingdomtitans.ca/us/

Black Cat Bases have this one;

Other minis in their range might be what you're looking for but you'll have to search thru their site ;)

The press figures from West Wind's 'Nam range pack of chopper gunners and press might be useful:

Back from the dead, almost.

We have some armed civilians/plain clothed police types in our W79 Range that might fit the bill for the leading man or company man:

Not on your list, but a modern Benn Gunn-type castaway?

Random thought on your sailor type - Foundry have a Darkest Africa figure in one of their explorer packs that could be a reasonably simple conversion job?

Mike Bravo do one in their modern War Correspondents set. He looks like he world work just as  well for the 1970s.

Thanks for all this guys. Eye-opening. Still sorting through details of what I want/need... well, you know what I mean by "need." And MB, that castaway is awesome, and one of the Island themes that the opponent can choose is "The Castaway," so thanks for that as well.
