Romanian mystery
« on: May 12, 2017, 11:16:53 PM »
A year or two back I was lucky enough to see the greens for a range of WW2 Romanians by that master sculptor Kosta Heristanidis. They looked to be exquisite figures, some of Kosta's best. IIRC they were being sculpted for someone in Europe, possibly Germany. Ever since I've been on the lookout to see if they have ever been produced or sold. No joy.

By curious coincidence around the same time an Australian mob started a crowd funding campaign for a similar range. These are not those as those are Anton Ducrot sculpts.

Anyone know of what ever happened to the masters? I suppose I could ask Kosta but I'm not sure he knows either. I just thought that with this forum having a European flavour, someone might know.

Hi Carlos,

Thanks for your interested in the Romanians!

You are right, Kosta finished the first four sets (officers/NCOs, riflemen and LMG) about two years ago. Unfortunately, due to his busy schedule and some other reasons, the second wave (HMG, mortar and SMG armed soldiers) got delayed quite a bit. It didn't make much sense to release the first sets without a definite date for the second wave.

The good news is, that the greens for the second wave are done and currently at the master moulding stage. The plan is to release the first and second wave together in one go later this year.

Nice
"Peace" is that brief, glorious moment in history when everybody stands around reloading.

Excellent news! By coincidence, someone told me it was Tsuba on Friday. Looking forward to these, naturally enough,  should be a good match for his Soviets. I suspect they will be very popular. Keep us posted on release dates.

Thanks for the comments!

Here's a small preview photo of the first set Officers & NCOs:

As mentioned above, sculpted by Kosta Heristanidis. The display miniatures painted by Andrew Taylor.

The range is designed for the earlier part of the war. Especially the invasion of the Soviet Union in 1941, when Romania fought alongside the other (European) Axis powers. Thus their main opponent would be Soviet forces, of which Kosta has already sculpted a great range of miniatures for Eureka Miniatures.

The iniatial release will consist of seven sets:
RO_01 Officers & NCOs (four miniatures)
RO_02 Riflemen advancing (four miniatures)
RO_03 Riflemen firing (four miniatures)
RO_04 SMG-armed soldiers (four miniatures)
RO_05 LMG teams (four miniatures)
RO_06 HMG team (three miniatures + HMG)
RO_07 Mortar team (two miniatures + mortar and ammo crates)

Depending on demand, further sets will be added. Maybe we'll even develop the range into the later part of the war, when Romania fought as part of the Allies.

If you have any suggestions for 'bundles' of miniatures based on certain rule sets, please let me know!  ;)

Lovely work from Kosta and Andrew. Congrats to you as well Maichus in commissioning these miniatures.

Tank and SPG crew would be a suggestion.

@Maichus: In the moment you do the most interesting ranges. Filling a lot of missing parts in existing ranges. Hope you have success with your stuff.

Beautifully painted!

As a suggestion for packaging you may wish to consider the historical platoon organisation, a decent summary of which can be found here:

I second Helen's suggestion and also perhaps some Cavalry options?
