Well, I hate to say it but I recently broke down and bought my first Games Workshop product in almost 10 years...and from a GW store on top of it! That product was the rulebook for Shadow War: Armageddon, Games Workshop's possible reentry into the skirmish gaming market. This review will consistent of my initial impressions of the book itself without having played any actual games. I will likely do a second review that takes a more in-depth look at the ruleset and how it actually plays on the tabletop.

Nice write up. Bloodbowl pulled me back into a GW store last year for the first time in forever. They definitely seem to be moving in the right direction again, but your review jives with what I've picked up on from watching folks play SW:A online - they took out most of the stuff that made Necromunda great, and left in the stuff that needed a rejig. There are so many great skirmish games out there at the moment, and SW:A just feels a bit like a lazy release - although it may have been done 'quicky and nasty' on purpose to get a gauge on the market for skirmish-sized games. Although there was also Gangs of Coma-something, too, which also seemed a bit half-hearted from what I saw of it.

Very well written review.

Food for thought.

I think I'll wait to play a couple of games before I consider buying in to this system.

A good review, thank-you.  More importantly, delving into your blog, I found the Inquisimunda rules that I'd  not properly investigated before (although I've been loosely aware that they are a thing), they look very interesting.
