Cap'n Blood's French & Indian Wars Battle
« on: March 16, 2009, 07:45:32 PM »
Long promised, here are some pics of my F&IW table, with the mid-game reconstructed (with a little artistic licence for the camera), as ferocious indians close in from all sides on the doughty defenders of Stockett’s Fort.

There are around 60 attacking figures and 30 defenders in play. The woodland indians are all by Redoubt. The plucky redcoats are by Front Rank, supplemented by a few Foundry pirates playing the part of settlers because I haven’t got round to painting my Redoubt settlers yet. Although all the rest of these I painted about 3 years ago.

The central buildings are by Grand Manner – I plan to add a couple of the more recent Grand Manner Americas range which I will buy at Salute.

Enjoy  ;)

Captain !

Your painting style is extraordinary. The figs look awesome. Especially the natives.

Beautiful work, mate. Mind if I ask what rules you were using? I like BaB for F&I myself, but realize it's not everyone's cuppa.

Pretty spectacular!! This is what FIW gaming is all about.

One miniature is too many, and a thousand are not enough...

Very nice. I 've always admired those Snapdragon rock formations, they work particularly well for North America too.Excellent painting as well. :)

A stunning job on all of it!  Just wonderful to look at, makes you feel like you are right there in the midst of the battle.

Thanks all - great to get such lovely feedback. I plan to expand this collection somewhat in the coming months, and will post pics of the new pieces as I get through them - which will probably be in the summer now...  :?

Mind if I ask what rules you were using? I like BaB for F&I myself, but realize it's not everyone's cuppa.

Doc, I use my own home-grown variant of the old classic Kill Zone rules - the original Future Wars skirmish ruleset, which I have freely adapted to all manner of non-Future Wars eras. It's just a great, simple, brutal system. And it's free. I have a deep personal loathing of most commerical rulesets which always seem to be fat, glossy 100 page books of mind-bending over-complexity, and for which you are expected to buy loads of supplements. I find a 10 page ruleset with a one page summary sheet makes for a much more enjoyable game  ;)

For anyone who's interested, you can grab the original Kill Zone rules for free here - http://www.mts.net/~gisby/kizo/killzone.htm

You will see that the basic system is easily adaptable to other periods and weapon technologies - you just need to change some of the terms for something more 'in period'.
