Not tried it myself, but here are a few people who have:

There's also a colonial version of the "Dan Mersey Engine" called The Men Who Would Be Kings, to give you a notion of a more "shooty" version of the core engine.

Let us know how you get on ;)

I had no idea this was the same.  Ranged attacks are ranged attacks however they are statted or fluffed - I may have to check this out!

There is a Lasers Rampant (40Kish) variant somewhere - either on the Dragon Rampant Facebook group files section or Board Game Geek Files section.

This is a brilliant application of a great beer&pretzels ruleset.

Sadly the dropbox link in the OP seems to be dead.

Yeah, I killed that off after getting frustrated with it.  I'm sure someone's done a much better version by now.

Looks like you have what you are looking for, Keith.

I am looking forward to the next phase where you introduce them to your crash test dummy.

I have a version I play that is a mash up of CoC, Rogue Trader and Lion Rampant.

Main changes as follows:
Use jump off points and patrol phase from CoC
Units can have any number of figures, take 1 shock for each casualty removed (also take shock for running, terrain, close shots, etc) to use for courage tests
Units are activated as normal except every 2 shock is a minus one modifier.
No turn over if a unit fails its activation when ordered by a leader
Leaders can also remove shock
Wild Charge is replaced by Wild Firing.  A unit can only activate to shoot if an enemy unit is in line of sight (unless ordered by a leader).
Weapon ranges are increased, cover adds to armour, units can go tactical (improves cover), leaders can order covering fire (improves cover), overwatch, smoke, etc.
Vehicles are treated like normal units except certain weapons have Armour Piercing rating.  Vehicles take damage depending upon how many hits over their armour are achieved from AP attacks (rather than a multiple).

I've played a few face to face games and about a dozen solo through various iterations of the rules (basically making it simpler over time) and it is fun, generally battles turn on a key moment where it could go either way and cover is important so it isn't just line up your guys and shoot.  Leaders are a scarce resource so where and when to deploy them are critical.
