15mm Late 19thC British gunboat ideas
« on: June 14, 2017, 09:19:57 PM »
I'm on the look out for a late 19thC (1880-1900) sea going gunboat for some East Africa games. Something like HMS Gannet maybe: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HMS_Gannet_(1878).

Closet I've come is to think about converting an Old Glory 15mm ship, USS Hartford filling in the gunports and adding a large deck gun.

Any ideas for alternative models? I've googled until my eyes bleed and am at a loss so any guidance/ideas would be much appreciated.

Three other options to consider: check out Thoroughbred Miniatures 15 mm ships, check in with the Virtual Armchair General and his connections with Houston Ships (custom, so maybe hard to find), or - depends on where you live, I suppose - try and find a 'mantle piece' ship and waterline it.  Here in California both Ross's (sometimes) and Hobby Lobby (more often - but more expensive) sometimes have ships that might work.

You have set yourself a challenge from the images I saw when googling: images of HMS Gannett.

Good luck.

What he said.  BTW, You MUST get a couple packs of Thouroughbred 15mm "Barbary Pirates".  SO MANY uses for Colonial gaming!   I use them as Zanzibar Slavers, Muslim adventurers, and such.  GREAT poses, good for land and sea.
