@Codsticker: Thanks very much! :)

@Pattus Magnus: Cheers! Yeah, it's hard to beat Big Bulky Sci-Fi Armour.

@Raedwald: Thank you!

@aliensurfer: Hard to argue with that. BA were my first 40k army. Although it was 2nd edition, and I think that 70% of people who got into 40k then started with BA. My army never got very big either before I switched to Imperial Guard. I'll always have a soft spot for the BA though. If it's up to me, I prefer them to look all 2nd edition like. Black shoulder armour rims, helmet colour as per battlefield role (and good luck figuring out what's that with Primaris Marines now. Very glad I found an overview for that. :D ).

@syrinx0: Cheers. Yes, it was a rather lovely show. I particularly enjoyed seeing so many familiar faces, many of whom I hadn't seen in 4 years due to the pandemic or in-fighting between clubs and whatnot. :D But for this VIVAT, almost everybody was present again. Which is very nice.

@Andym: Thank you! I have to, people start shouting at me if I don't get their stuff done. :D (just kidding. The people I work for are always particularly friendly and even patient where need be.)

Here's more Redmarine pictures!

Characters:

Heavy Intercessors:

Hellblasters:
(again, showing my 2nd edition roots. :D I'll always paint a plasma gun this way, unless somebody explicitly asks to have them done differently. I never got the appeal making the coil bit on top glowy. IIRC that was introduced with the Dawn of War computer game, which was pretty dark and relied a lot on glowy effects from guns and so on, not the least so they are quick and easy to identify in real-time. I mean I get the appeal, because it's an opportunity to paint something gimmicky on the figure and do some OSL and so on, but it's just not something I find all too appealing. Also [and now comes the argument boring, old people make.] - it makes so little sense to have a big, flashing light on top of your gun. I have done glowy coils on plasma guns, from pistols up to titan guns and Executioner cannons, but somehow I always preferred the classic silvery metal, especially on Imperial forces. Which is your preferred look?)

...with their big, impressive guns which evoke mixed feelings when it comes to aesthetics. :D

Eliminators:

Mephiston, Lord of Death:

Sternguard Veterans:

...and the new Terminators:

I also asssembled most of these figures. Which took ages. :D Especially since GW switched to that very digital approach of having no posability what so ever (remember when that was a selling point in plastics?) and you gotta be careful. The quality is great of course, no questions there. The new terminators I was curious about. Funny thing is that they're not as huge as I thought they would be. I mean compared to the 1st/2nd edition Ultramarines Terminators I did last summer they're still huge, but compared to other Primaris Marines they aren't all that big. A little less tall than the Heavy Intercessors for instance. Otherwise they bascially look the same as they did for the past 15 years. Which is perfectly fine. GW are pretty clever about not messing with their iconic designs (apart from Space Marines in power armour).

So yeah, that's that. Hope you like the units.

Also - here's a picture of the Battlemechs. :)

Lovely work on those Blood Angels. They're just so iconic to anyone in the hobby since (before) 2nd ed :)
But what I...

Ooh, battlemechs  :-*

Dang it; focus!

...yeah, that was my question: how did you do the effect on the capes of the sniper scouts (they're scouts to me, no matter what ;) ). Did you put sand and flock on the bottoms of the capes, or did you paint the ground effect on? It looks amazing (not in the least because of the cyberpunkish hex-pattern of cloakiness  on top).
Miniatures you say? Well I too, like to live dangerously...

Those are all just beautiful! I have a mob of battlemechs sitting on a shelf waiting for paint. Yours are inspiring, but also a bit intimidating…

Seeing your painting makes me almost want to order some oversized marines, but I know I'd feel dirty afterwards.

Still, that's how good your pjs are, I'm tempted.

Heyhey! What, no posts since MARCH? That is just wrong. I guess that's what I get for splitting things up between 200 different threads. :D But now I'm back, with something 40k-related again, and even something interesting.

Here's six Kasrkin, painted as Ultramar guard. These guys are super-well funded as far as I know, so the equipment makes sense. What makes those interesting is that they're resin casts (and very nice ones too) of unreleased figures.

For many, many years now, I've been painting such GW figures for a collector in France. Unreleased prototypes, greens, master casts, test/training sculpts, 3ups for plastics, stuff like that. Some of which I can't show online, some I can. Very glad I can show them as well as these:

full size image: https://www.tabletopwelt.de/uploads/monthly_2024_07/wip1offi.jpg.21724cc1d5eee5e6f25014b62dd6077c.jpg

Four Wood Elves heroes from 2004, one of the two male DE sorcerers (this one's the unreleased one; the other one wasn't around for a long time either IIRC), four of the five unreleased Brats for Confrontation (proto-Necromunda), Grom the Paunch with old Grom's axe. The pixelated guy I can't show, the dark silhouette in the back is a heavily bionik'd-up Ork boss; I assume he's a Painboss. All of them (even the Kasrkin) in various states of WIP, but interesting figures, so I thought I'd show you.

There are some other pretty amazing things in that batch, so I hope I get these here done swiftly and go on to the rest! Hope you like them and happy weekend!

I always lusted after those unreleased Kasrkin, but it's the brats that steal the show here.

Excellent stuff.

I love that grom miniature. Nice work. I'm itching to know whats behind pixelated door number 1, however I'm sure that itch will go within seconds of browsing elsewhere.

There was a new (but unreleased) sculpt of Grom?  :o Dang; my night gobbo's could have really done with one...

Really nice work on all of them!  :-*
