Shiney.

I won't be able to get a game in for a while, since I'm moving house.
Really looking forward to the new edition, though. I haven't really wanted to play 40k for years.
I did one game of 7th ed last year and, while chucking some dice with a friend is a wonderfull passtime, the game was bloated, slow and didn't feel right.

Now, I'm finding more and more 40k models hitting my painting table and I'm once again scouring the internet for models.
What a time to be alive....

Enjoyed your write-up, though I'm a bit saddened at the prospect of my battle cannons not being the monsters they once where.
I do look forward of storming my LR-demolisher forward. That little tanks used to be a monster in 4th, when he could fire his flamers on the move, but I got so little use from it.
I'm pretty sure I won't be playing 40k WYSIWYG many a time. I think my tournament days (as they where) are over anyway.

Nice write up. It sounds like this edition is the game (or at least close to being the game) that modern 40k should be. Fast and fun. I watched some YouTuve videos last night and after the nice 8ed threads popping up on here I've ordered Dark Imperium. I'd previously preorder the rulebook so one of those will be heading into eBay or in the marketplace here before too long!

I've already started to organise a trip to Warhammer World later on in the year with some friends. It was going to be mainly Shadow War that got played but I can see 40k getting some plays as well now

To me best part of new edition is Shadow War Armageddon :D

But Ive heard 8th is much more fun game than previous editions..
And some people are starting to try and destroy it already..
This is apparently a legal army build  lol

What is wrong with some people and wargaming :D

#voivod: my standard leman russ will have a punisher on the turret and all will have flamers instead of heavy bolters/multimeltas/lascannons (at least for next game)

#awu: in special characther datasheets says: only one of these can be included in your army, so that list it's illegal

I don't think it says that on the Celestine data sheet.

But that army would cost you $900, and probably wouldn't do very well against a horde army, although I have no idea what stats Celestine has.  It seems that the average Genestealer cultist has an autogun that can hurt a Warlord Titan potentially.  I can't imagine that Celestine has that kind of staying power, even 10 of them.

I don't do tournaments anyway so it is all irrelevant to me.

Of course its a typo..
but it shows mindset of local 40k players :P

Pictors Studio: Not that pricey though - Many people are selling Triumvirate boxes as parts and Celestine was least bough one so her price went to less than 20 pounds here :)
She is one model from the first Triumvirate I am not very interested with to be honest. I would buy 3 or for Greyfaxes if they were sold separately but she is most expensive  model from this set considering number of sprues :(

Yeah, the way to get a decent game in needs both okay rules an an opponent that's not an asshole.
I've never much cared for playing random strangers, the closest I got to that was first talking to a guy for a few hours at a FLGS and ending up with a game that evening at his place. We quickly ended up as friends.

I did have a multiplayed game at a club as my opponent made some mistakes with planning a game (he planned multiple games at the same time).
We ended up in a 2vs 2 where my mate and me fought two guys I didn't know. I hated that battle.

Having a good opponent is probably the most important part of having a good game.

I look at gaming as something I do with friends rather than something I just do.  It is one activity among many I enjoy doing.  I probably wouldn't go hiking with a complete stranger either.

Unless she was very attractive.

Thats exact my sentiments. I prefer to play with friends or not play at all..

Tried that (sans hiking) and same principal rules apply here :)

Readily available on ebay, albeit not cheap.

Sounds like there are a couple of typos in the initial dataslates, from things  like Carnifexes being the only unit with Twin Linked weapons who didn't get double shots, or the Inquisitorial retinue guys getting 3 Wounds each whilst only costing 8 points etc.

Of course if you intend to only play with friends none of that stuff matters.

I saw warning about Greyfax recasts made in plastic on one of the Fb groups!
So I am suspecting foul play on any model cut from her sprue for no apparent reason.
Especially when under 20$ for the model itself.
