Not sure....like many chinese weapons of the period they were destined to impress the ennemy by a lot of flash and noise. But they are compulsory in a imperial army. The multiple firing tiger gun is attested in a battle against the allies during the march to Beijing. I'm happy to have it soon in miniature  :-*
