modular spy-fi lair
« on: June 03, 2017, 01:53:51 AM »
Set it up last weekend at Kublacon.

Ran an Osprey Black Ops game as a 3-way fight (MI6 vs SPECTRE vs SMERSH perhaps?) with set up using rolled random locations, which worked pretty well to get things going quickly.

People seemed to like the space ship, which Michaels crafts shoppers may recognize as an unpainted wooden birdhouse.

Very nice Setup (particularly the psychedelic carpet  ;D)! Where did you get the submarine? Looks like a perfect size for a midget sub - made from a toy, I presume?

My only suggestion would be adding walls, I think the look would tremendously profit from that.
If I were you, I'd rather be me.

A quick ebay search on "green toys submarine" (from the inscription on the side of the conning tower) throws up 50 on sale:

That carpet is brilliant.  What is it from?

Thanks.   Carpets are patterned craft felt, available in 9x11 sheets in a variety of trippy designs--that and a couple of craft papers were used.   Tiles are made from Home Depot "Industrial" pattern vinyl flooring.

Yes.   The Crooked Dice PDF construction guide has some nice walls & instructions for making slip-under edges and corners.  Like the slightly minimalist look, but the lair could use a few more furniture pieces.  A work in progress...

Green Toys.  :) They make a rocket and boat which could be similarly modified.

That looks amazing, I have started accumulating bits for my own spy-fi lair so tempted to have the entrance as a tailors shop!

I love the shark tank and the Rembrant. It looks like you were inspired by Blowfeld's base in "You Only Live Twice". Great job!

Had a similar idea recently using the granny grating and some un-expanded foam, but more Jim Sterenko inspired than James Bond. Will have to borrow some of your ideas though.

I just glued it onto a cardboard framework and it worked pretty good.

Mostly inspired by viewings of You Only Live Twice, Our Man Flint, and Casino Royale (1967).

Blue Moon's Austin does make an appearance.  Yeah Baby :)
