Compatibility of Perry and Calpe french guns
« on: June 18, 2017, 03:00:06 PM »
A trade has left me with 24 artillery crew for my napoleonic french but no appropriate guns (the guns included were anything but french). Since the Perrys don't sell individual guns and I will probably not need 6 limber teams I was wondering how well Calpe french guns match the Perry french guns.

Does anyone have experience with both guns, has a comparison shot or can point me to a review of Calpe's french guns?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Cheers
Nick

I don't have a comparison but just in case it does not work out there are some more options e.g. Front Rank and Elite Miniatures.
There seems to be something wrong with our bloody ships today...turn two points to port.

I don't have any Calpe French guns, but a lot of the Prussian ones. I also have some Perry French guns.
As models go the Perry seem a fair bit smaller than Calpe. I'm not at home so cannot send photos. I will be tomorrow, if you want one?

Warboss Nick,

My apologies for not getting back to you sooner, we were not at home for a week.
I am erroneous in my earlier post in that the Perry are not much smaller than Calpe. The barrel and carriage are slightly smaller the wheels are the same size, just thinner. Peter the sculptor at Calpe is very exact with his gun dimensions as are Westfalia, Perry is not that far off, by the looks of it. I would surmise that Perry would be pretty precise as well.

Here are some pics.
Cheers,
Thomas

Thomas,

Many thanks for the numerous photos and indepth description! That is just what I was looking for. They look like a good enough fit and I will use Calpe for at least one battery.

And don't worry about taking some time with your answer. We all live a real life and that takes priority!

Cheers Nick

Belatedly could I suggest that you have a look at the Black Hussar (ex Westfalia Miniatures) French artillery which are really nice!

I've got some to go with some Brigade Miniatures French gunners.

Cheers,

Paul

Thanks for the Suggestion, Paul. I have considered the Black Hussar / Westphalia Gribeauval 8pdr, a lovely model. In the end I decided against it as there probably were non at Waterloo let alone a whole battery. Maybe another time for pre 1812, even though there is no Gribeauval howitzer to go with it unfortunately.
