OK, supplementary questions/comments - based on my understanding of Space Marine organisation from 4th-5th Edition.

We seem to be pretty-much following the Codex. This implies organisation into 10 Companies and 100 Squads (each Squad is commanded by a Sergeant or Veteran Sergeant - Veteran Squads are always commanded by Veteran Sergeants)

1st Veteran Company is 10 Squads of 10 Veterans (whether in Terminator Suits or not)

2nd Battle Company is 6 Tactical Squads  of 10 Marines with Bolters (one may have assault-support weapon, one may have heavy support weapon); 2 Assault Squads of 10 Marines with Bolt Pistol and Close-Combat Weapon (all may have Jump Packs; two may have specialist weapons); 2 Devastator Squads of 10 Marines with Bolters (four may have heavy support weapons)

3rd-5th Battle Companies are organised like the 2nd Company

6th-7th Tactical Reserve Companies are composed of 10 Tactical Squads each.

8th Assault Reserve Company is composed of 10 Assault Squads - in practice may be used for Bike Squads

9th Devastator Reserve Company is composed of 10 Devastator Squads - in practice may also drive tanks

10th Scout Company is composed of 10 Squads with multiple close-combat or long-range weapon options.

This was pretty much how the Ultramarines and most of the other main Chapters were organised... about 7 years ago, and I'm not sure what has changed particularly with that basic organisation. It certainly seems to be the framework we're using.

The thing about Companies is they all have their own markings. Standard colours are:

1st Company - white
2nd Company - yellow/gold
3rd Company - red
4th Company - green
5th Company - black
6th Company - bronze/orange
7th Company - purple
8th Company - iron/grey
9th Company - blue
10th Company - no colour

In Codex-compliant chapters, this is denoted usually by the shoulder-pad trim, but sometimes it's the helmet, left knee-pad or some other area that is marked in the company colour.

Different squads also have iconography, depending on whether they're Tactical (generally 'up arrow'), Assault (X-shaped arrows), Devastator (inverted V or Delta), Veteran (Cross) or Command (Skull) Squads. Again this is usually on shoulder-pads (the opposite one to the Chapter symbol).

So... we have our Chapter colours; but I think a decision needs to be made about how we designate Companies and Squad types.

Can I make a suggestion for the latter that 'L A F' or λ α φ be used to designate Devastator (L, 'Lead' ie heavy), Assault (A for 'adventure') or Tactical (F, for 'frater' ie 'brother marines')? I prefer Greek myself, and α rather than A, but I won't die on a (lead) mountain over it.

Anyway, I've checked up and I can definitely chuck some Tactical Marines and some Scouts into the mix. I'll try as far as possible to follow Michi's Scout colour-scheme. However I've noticed that the schemes for Tac Marines don't necessarily match.

Tellus and Ultravanillasmurf have painted (28mm) Tac Marines with pale shoulderpads and dark trim. However, it looks like YPU's Epic Tac Marines have dark shoulderpads and light trim. Any thoughts?

EDIT: Hey! Apparently I can attach photos!

Apologies - this year I've been off LAF as my work / hobby desk in lock down had no PC to distract me as I painted.

These are some excellent additions - well done YPU!

Is there an overall list of which Companies, and which Squads from those Companies, have been bagsied already? And more importantly, which have been done?
The OP has a list of who wants to be where, but feel free to create your own, non-Codex organised units

The general organisation seems to be based on the Codex, but we're using our own Company iconography, is that correct?
Yes, but as the Chapter evolves, it will deviate away from the "norm". Think somewhere between Space Wolves and Ultramarines.

We seem to be pretty-much following the Codex. This implies organisation into 10 Companies and 100 Squads
It started out this way... and who knows how many squads haven't been replenished with scouts/new recruits.

Agree - I like to think we use this as a base for those that want to follow the Chapter's rules guidelines.

Good to hear... and I guess we're not so Codex any more  :D

Complements of the season and all that

Quick WIP of my Termies that I'm pressing into service. I hope for more and better to come, but for now, you'll have to be content with this (if it works).
