Magic Items and 'standard' items.
« on: July 09, 2017, 09:03:23 PM »
A question came up tonight - if you equip a soldier with a magic weapon (which he has to have to be able to do so), does this count as his item slot (Soldier generally has standard items + 1 slot) ?

General feeling was yes it did, but I thought I would ask the community.

It does use the itemslot, you can read it in the FAQ.

We've always played magic armour and weapons don't take up a slot.  That the slot is for rings, potions, cloaks magic items etc. The FAQ contradicts itself by giving an example where a soldier has two magic weapons.

A soldier can have two magic weapons via Enchant Weapon (during the game)/Embed Enchantment (after the game).

Edit #1: Actually, the example in the FAQ says "figure", it doesn't say "soldier", which could mean wizard, captain etc as Severon said.

Edit #2: As Severon pointed out, it's in the FAQ p.3
Magic Weapons and Armour – Magic weapons or amour my only be given to a soldier who carries a
weapon or armour of that type normally. In this case the magic weapon or armour replaces the
normal version and DOES count as an item.

And The Captain, Wizard and Apprentice each have more than item-slot and are able to use 2 weapons.

We play it as If the weapon they have is enchanted then embedded it doesnt take up a slot.
But if you find say a staff of power or a magic shield/weapon then that takes up a slot.
We dont allow the sale of an enchanted weapon unless it is a found item.

Oh well I've discussed it with my group.  We're happy to carry on as we were, as our (soon to be retired) high level warbands have lots of magic weapons/items etc then its better to use them to enhance our soldiers than just sell them.  It does hurt when a well equipped soldier then dies.

As non of us have enchanters we haven't come to a landing on whether a soldier can sell a embedded enchanted weapon/armour etc.  I can see why you wouldn't allow it as a soldier cant sell his own gear.

I think the idea is that if you spend a game enchanting items, embed them then sell them it would give you an unfair advantage as far as money is concerned.
That being said it up to your group if they want to go down that route.
You could limit it to selling 1 magic item per game ,either way whatever makes the game fun and interesting for all :)

Enchanting, then embedding the enchantment is both harder and less lucrative than either getting another treasure from Reveal Secret or making and then selling a Grimoire.

It certainly doesn't bother me if my opponent is using that strategy.
