I have just bought a 3d printer and the first thing I printed was these three minis to make a command base for this army.

Look great!

I think a whole new world has just opened up to you and your printer.

Good luck and bon voyage!

Its a wargaming wonder that 3D printer.

Nice to see a painted and based miniature that you saw in liquid form just yesterday.

Chaps, I've been following this for several years.  Can anyone out there suggest some books in English on the subject? I have the obligatory Osprey MAAs ,the 2nd edition of Christiansen's "Northern Crusades" plus Williams Urban's books on the Teutonic Knights, but any other suggestions more than welcome.  I recently saw a programme on TV about the battle of Masterby, the precursor to the more well-known battle of Visby and this has further piqued my interest in Scandinavian medieval military history

Thanks

I am not particularly familiar with English literature on this subject. I would think there isn't much of it.

Thanks. I have found a book on “Medieval Scandinavia” on Amazon which might be of interest.

I am resurecting this thread as I have added to this army.

I have printed and painted some preview models for an upcoming kickstarter by Styriwar that I will definitely be backing. Follow it here: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/styriwar/divide-et-impera-12th-century-wargaming-stl-files?ref=banner&fbclid=IwAR2-lRLKvycxHhMVvG-EK0T15l79gkyPlppM9uW7KguUm8jHe0eUjjRH1Cc_aem_ASKFeyzbgt3FfF8V9THwxi_s4J_Uy13SYDeD76h5leJg-SWdB0wxg_DTrZCc9dPDMTCIPfv-1Qkt-qtOCIYXiy8i

These first ones will serve as command bases for my ever growing medieval army.

The first base is from the Danish Jernskæg (iron beard) family. The guy with the polearm has a polearm head from the warsteel miniatures range.

The second base is from the Trolle house.

And lastly the two bases of Styriwar models in front of a small part of my army that contains models from just about all manufacturers of medieval models. And I think they fit right in. I cannot wait to get a few new units painted up for this army.

Lovely miniatures, Dr. Zombie

As to books about this topic in english, have a look at this one published just a few days ago by ARC Humanities:

“Holy War in the Baltic and the Battle of Lyndanise 1219”

The book focuses especially on the military aspects of this particular Danish campaign of 1219 in Estonia and of the Baltic crusades in general around 1200 from a scandinavian perpective.

https://www.arc-humanities.org/9781641892858/holy-war-in-the-baltic-and-the-battle-of-lyndanise-1219/

Probably too expensive for most to buy, but the local libary may get a copy for you

Regards

Carsten

Thanks Carsten.

Also for the litterature. If you wouldn't know of any litterature on the topic, then who would. And what a coincidence you wrote it yourself. ;D
It will go on my list of things to give to myself as a treat.
