First Game Of Bolt Action
« on: July 08, 2017, 08:42:19 PM »
Alrighty! I played my first game of Bolt Action tonight at Hobbytown Fresno. We played 750 points, Russians vs. British Airborne (yes, an ahistoric matchup.) The game was mostly a draw... he killed my tank on the first turn, but I killed almost everything but his tank by the end of the game o.0

I *really* like this game. I can't wait to finish painting my Japanese and getting in some more games!

I think all the commonly repeated criticisms of BA are valid but I really like it. It's always a fun game and I love the dice drawing system and how pinning works. It's a lovely production as well and really well supported by Warlord.

It is fun, pure and simple; and the dice really make for a suspenseful game. Look forward to seeing your Japanese.

I am surprised that the dice activation system has not made it across into other designs.

I am surprised that the dice activation system has not made it across into other designs.

Possibly an IP issue, Gates of Antares uses it (because there is no IP issue).

There are a number of systems that use cards, either normal playing cards or special ones.

It's chit/card activation by a different name.  Been around for donkeys  ;)

Been playing BA for a few years - it's still fun but in need of an overhaul (and I mean a proper overhaul not just rolling in some more glitter) but sadly that ship has sailed for a couple of years at least :(

BA: Beer and Pizza - quick, easy and fun but lacks depth.
CofC: a roast beef dinner and wine - more flavour, more variety and highly enjoyable but harder to learn to appreciate.

CofC: a Pork Pie dinner and cooking larger - more flavour, more variety and highly enjoyable but even harder to learn to appreciate.

There you go Rich fixed it for you  lol
