An unexpected encounter...

I don't think I ever photographed the three Missionaries of Africa I made for the Belgian Congo project. They were finished after that year's Army Painter so they didn't make it into the thread

The Missionaries of Africa, known as the 'White Fathers" have a distinctive look. I ended up using Perry clergy from the Crusade range with some greenstuff modifications. I wanted to make some of these guys after reading the "Cross and Flag in Africa: The 'White Fathers' during the Colonial Scramble". It is a pretty interesting read, although it downplays the atrocities in the Congo and implies that the Catholic missionaries weren't fully aware of the situation. Some of them were genuine characters- one, Victor Roelens, had his own little theocracy carved out for a while.
