3mm Mayhem, Warmaster
« on: July 27, 2017, 09:30:17 AM »
My first project log! 3mm old world Empire and Beastmen I have been working on. Models are 3mm Magister Militum and 6mm Microworlds.

Lined up for battle.

Pikes (spearmen), Griffon, Knights, Horse Archers, Archers

Gors (6mm Microworld) and Ungors (3mm skirmishers). Note that the closest unit of Ungors is facing the wrong way!

Everything is based on 4 by 2cm bases except a few 2 by 2cm bases. They were originally intended for Warmaster but due to the number of bases required I thought a WAB conversion might be worth a try. Now, however, Mayhem has suddenly taken my attention and I have started making units specifically for that.

Nice massed army look! I'm too old to see to paint these little guys, but I'm going to make a run at some 10mm WM figs I have left from years ago. ;)

Wow,

That is really impressive. Great detail for that size. The armies look compelling.

Oh wow, that looks fantastic! There's a surprising amount of detail on the 3mm figures and the thought of 6mm beasts being used as hulking brutes makes me grin.

Planning to add any 15mm giants? Properly huge dragons?

Great stuff - really impressive! I've got a bit of an itch to see how the bigger 6mm stuff scales as diminutive hordelings in 10mm.

What's the big slug-like beast?

Cool stuff. I didn't even know MM did 3mm figures.

Very nice line ups, the massed ranks look really nice.

That sluglike thing looks like it might be one of the grubs from CP or maybe Heresy. Nice use of models!

Thanks for the feedback.

The slugs are from heresy minatures. Here is a link to them being sold as part of a group with other models, I cannot see any them listed on their own like they used to be though: http://heresyminiatures.com/shop/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=1_9_33&products_id=272

Magistar Militum have a line of 3mm (plus terrain). Unfortunately nothing Renaissance so I have had to do a lot of improvising. I have used pikemen with helmets, skirmishing archers, Roman Cataphracts as knights, Parthian horse archers and also Roman javelinemen (as opposed to the non-Roman ones) as Ungors because they have wolf skin coats which makes them nice beastmen. https://www.magistermilitum.com/scale/3mm.html (click on the left just to see te Magister Militum 3mm.

I have a collection of large monsters to go with these, will hopefully add pictures soon.

Yep, that is one of the appeals of small scale. Models designed for other scales look huge against 3mm. Below is my current collection of monsters, in various states of paint and basing. The shining ones at the back are Reaper bones (Basilisk, Beetle, Beetle Swarm). A stand of pikes and a stand of knights are there for scale...

Very cool! I'm working on a similar path at 6mm scale at the moment where the plan is to use huge (titan size I guess) monsters which would be large at 28mm.

Love where this is going and I'm looking forward to seeing more!

Nicely done :)

I'm a real fan of 2mm / 3mm for big-battle gaming (although I've not made any foray into fantasy in these scales....yet ;) )

My 10mm WM / Warband armies have made good use of 28mm figures for assorted giants / beasties etc too :)
