Looking for Conan boardgame Black Ones proxy
« on: July 31, 2017, 11:02:12 AM »
I am trying to tap into the hivemind here  :D

I went almost completely overboard on the Conan boardgame Kickstarter but lack of funds tempted me to postpone some buys until the Retail phase. Now it appears that some minis will never make it to the Retail phase at all...

So I went looking for proxies. Cards and rules are readily available and in the meantime I found most of the minis but am still searching for suitable Black Ones.

Black Ones look like tall, bald, evil or demonically looking men. Evil faces, clawed hands. Preferably unarmed. May be nude or wearing no more than a loincloth. Figure length may easily be 35-40mm as they are supposed to be about 7 or 8 foot tall.

Does anyone know a proxy suitable for this role? Plastic, resin or metal makes no difference to me.

I would be very grateful for suggestions.

The head looks a bit Vampiric, the arms apish/werewolflike and the body strong without being too muscular. You might have to convert them, because I don't know a 1 on 1 suitable fig.
And sorry, I'm not willing to part with my own Monolith Black Ones. Don't like that sculpt too much ( nor that it is only a monopose ) but hey, I'm a hoarder  ;).

That was quick! Did you mean to post a link to a figure? Your link directs to a book. I haven't found any figure that even came close, let alone would be convertable. And yet they are not very elaborate.

And I am not hoping for the orginals. They are going for $150 or thereabouts.  :(

No, I was meaning to point at an illustration, which might help to go after proxies.
And really, 150$  :o.

Hi Pilje,

at first I thought, why doesn't he simply take the good ol' Rackham bad guys from the Ophidians
https://cadwallon.com/apostates-of-darkness.html

Then I read your post again and realized, somehow my mind stopped to take on the important part of your post, and simply wanted to show the Rackham guys as suitable bad guys for Conan :)

So okay, I read it again and what about either GW or Mantic Ghouls/Vampires with a suitable paintjob?

Like these without the wings/other arms:

Or these:

or slightly smaller:

Mantic is cheaper but will need some modifications/kitbash (especially new heads):

I actually didn't consider Mantic. I own the ghouls, but they are a bit small and the rags of clothing are hard to remove.

In the meantime I found the Reaper Bones Ghast. A bit apelike, but getting there.

But the Mantic Tortured Souls are actually not bad. I would need to think of someting for the hands or sculpt those myself. But they are the best base material I have seen so far.

Thanks! Keep it coming!

Yes he is actually quite good. But a bit expensive. I need 10.......

Efriti are good as well, if only they didn't have so many flames....
