Looking For Dragon tabletop Rules
« on: August 04, 2017, 09:03:02 AM »
Was wondering if any knows of Rule set that I could use to do some dragon battles with?

My Daughter [she is 11] and I used to play D&D Attack wing with only Dragons but getting bored with it and want a game that is fun to play but offers a challenge.

we have the following:
Red Dragon
Blue Dragon
White Dragon
Shadow Dragon
Gold Dragon
Copper Dragon
Wyvern
and I found a cheap Red Dragonliche

thanks for any one who can help us do some Dragon Battles.

Cheers

These may be worth a try:
http://www.wargamevault.com/product/131342/Battle-SkiesDragons-Quick-Start-Rules
And the full version can be found at
http://www.wargamevault.com/product/131321/Battle-SkiesDragons

You may be able to convert the deck build game http://www.wargamevault.com/product/20128/Dragons?it=1

A few other ideas:
A SciFi giant robot game and convert?
Japanese monster vs monster rules http://www.ganeshagames.net/product_info.php?cPath=1_11&products_id=19
Raiding castles for food / small campaign style resource management - costs food to fight and fly vs results

You could always try to get Stomp - originally giant vs Elves and convert that - only needs feet and club (breath) if I remember though...

My final batty idea is to convert http://www.drivethrurpg.com/product/92516/The-Hamster-That-Ate-The-World-MiniGame-7 to use a dragon!

   I've tried every game I could find for dragon battles, free, borrowed, or purchased.  I eventually wrote my own.
In every case, the rules didn't work like I wanted.  I never got the feel I was looking for.
   I have not tried those Sky Dragon rules, but since they're based on a starship game I don't see how they would be much different than the other starship mods I did try.

   The issue probably isn't the rules, I'm sure it's more me and what I'm expecting from them.  I hope you do find what you're looking for.  I would suggest taking a moment to define to yourself what it is you're wanting.  What would make it a dragon game in your opinion?
    If you do find something, I would love to see some AARs!

@AndrewBeasley
Will check out those links you mentioned see what catches my eye.

@DS615
I am wanting a game that gives us options Dragon Vs Dragon wither 1V1 or in a team. We have each to make a three dragon teams
Red , Dragonliche and White dragon for me
Blue, Copper and Gold Dragon for the Daughter.

most of the rules I see out there are mostly conversions from some kind of flight sim game or spaceships reskinned  to dragons.

I am after something that is K.I.S.S yet can give us a challenge.
I may just have to try and make a rule set for our games.

Cheers

I think Ganesha's giant monsters might do the trick. Mind you it is mostly a ground based game, flight is simply a way to get around with little rules for manoeuvrability, but the rules do make for a very interesting monster brawl where every body part kinda acts like its own model, making for a more engaging back and forth with different attacks. The rules are quite simple, but it takes a second to wrap your head around the activation mechanism. (the same as songs of blades and heroes)

I'd second the Mighty Monsters recommendation; it's great fun. Another advantage is that it's designed to use kids' toy dinosaurs, etc., so you might find it easy to recruit additional monsters. It's a while since my kids and I played, though, so I can't remember off-hand how it handles flight. It certainly has breath weapons, and three against three would be quite a typical game.

Mighty Monsters might work well. I've tried games with few, 'big' monsters before and I find that most involve just moving toward each other the one dies. Mighty Monsters does a bit more than that in terms of 'decision' points.

As a total aside - in answering this  I've just realised these rules might work quite well for gladiators (or post apocalypse cyber gladiators!) with a bit of work.

In my on going search I stumbled across this rule set:

http://www.loran.karoo.net/dragon_fight.pdf

customizable Dragons
Caters to different sized Dragons by assigning d4/d6/d8/d12/d16/d20 for each size ratio
purchase system that allows you to buy what skills or breath weapon you want.

Direct from rule book.

Quote
These rules have borrowed heavily from been influenced by various other games, some of which
have nothing to do with Dragons, chiefly :

 Fokker Fodder - by Les Ward and Humberside Wargames Society;
 SHOOTIST - by Derek Sorensen, published by Bumblebee Games;
 Fantasy Fliers - by Lloyd Krassner, published by Warpspawn Games;
 Dragon Lords - published by Grenadier Models;
 Dragon Duels - by Glenn McClune

Will try and give these rules a whirl see if we like them but they look promising.

cheers
