« on: August 12, 2017, 12:40:21 PM »
Just saw this via TGN:

Iron Wars Kickstarter

Iron Wars is a brutal tactical game utilizing Mechs, miniatures and interactive scenery for action-packed game play.

1-4 players (expandable to 5-6 players in competitive mode)
Co-op campaign and competitive mode: Co-op campaign with 8 Missions. 2 competitive modes: Death Match and Arena.
You are a Mercenary company, select your Mechs and fighters, hire your mercenaries and use the resources to win.
Mechs: with these destruction machines, you can attack other Mechs and their pilots.
Available in English and Spanish: You’ll be able to choose the language during the pledge manager phase, after the campaign has ended.
Available in German, French and Italian in pdf for download after the campaign has ended. (With a minimum of 75 backers for each language, we will provide a translation pack for the Core/Deluxe Game and Optional Buys as Stretch goals).

The renders so far remind me of the old Robogear mechs and soldiers and that's not very good  lol

The mechs have that bent knee pose that so exercised commentators on mid 'eighties orcs (it is energetically inefficient to have the knee - or any other joint - in that position).

Exposed pilots might work where melee is the only concern (at least where there is some protection) but it looks like the Steel mechs have popped their canopy.

The ammo feed is a bit odd, part way down the gun. No obvious receiver part.

Your mileage may vary.

I'm going to echo scurv here. Nothing about those designs is appealing They feel like something from a bad Doom clone 90s pc game.

I'm not a fan of these mechs.

I much prefer these ones (if I was going to chose a piloted mini-mech combat game):

I have some of them and they are so much better than the ones in the OP.

Well nice to know I don't have to send you the link for your opinion. ;-)
The Mechadrome though, just thinking about them the other day and was wondering how to buy em. Appreciate the link. Lots of potential in the line.

Yeah...those do absolutely nothing for me.  Really lazy design.  We discussed this in another thread but I think we're seeing way too many people who have figured out how to digital sculpt but have zero artistic eye/talent for doing so.  They might technically know how to work the software but that doesn't make you an artist or an excellent designer.   I've seen dozens of mostly failed Kickstarters in the past year or two with piss-poor designs from the 3D side of things.

I suppose the old adage of "just because you can...doesn't mean you should" might come into play here.

I got mine through the kickstarter they ran so, other than buying direct, I wouldn't know how to go about buying them any other way.
