Great looking figures.  Thanks for putting the face painting tutorial. I've been trying to find way to paint faces I like and I will try your system.

How did you pick which French units to do?  I'm curious because you've done the same ones I have....

I haven't added any units in a long time, but there are pics of some of them here:

Aphillathehun...
I have been to your blog many times ... you have some very nice toys.

I have a rather simple method of picking which unit to do...
If it is pretty and or has a nice flag it's for me... :D

The War of Spanish Succession appeals to my wargames butterfly because of the broad choice of uniforms, nations and flags, I like the idea of having no two units the same, there is also less chance of boredom creeping in.
I have Clare and the Danish Life Guard in the painting que at the moment so I am well on the way to fielding two rainbow armies  lol

All the best. Aly

Stunningly impressive!
And when you'll post pics with many units together, it will be a real feast for the eyes!  :-*

Yeah, I think that's a good part of it for me also.  I'm often driven by what looks good before any other consideration.  The WSS certainly fits that bill.

Success to you on the expansion of your project.  Your posts made me relook at my stuff and has me working to finish up some more stuff for it.  Thanks for that!

Lovely figures, Aly, and a great project too.

If I may nit-pick and be a pedant for a second, the only thing wrong with the miniatures is the buttonhole lace on the grenadiers' coats. French grenadiers wore the exact same coats as the rest of the rank and file and only differed from them in that they wore a mustache, had a sabre instead of a sword and sported a different accoutrement. They would only wear lace if the ordinary musketmen wore it too. The practice of differentiating the grenadiers from the center companies by giving them buttonhole lace was an English one and the Front rank French grenadiers are incorrect in that respect.

You have valid point sir.... :o

Unfortunately the thought of carving the braid of my finished/almost finished figures is more harrowing than leaving things as they are....

Most manufacturers make that particular mistake when it comes to late C17th/early C18th French grenadiers (though to give credit where credit is due Nick Wragg from Ebor did release new French grenadiers without buttonhole lace after I had pointed this issue to him). Right, pedant time is over and I'll get off my soapbox now.

Actually, carving off the lace off the unpainted figures would be a tedious job already given how hard the metal Front Rank use is (pure pewter, is it not ?), so I can sympathise with your being even more reluctant to practice this kind of surgery on painted figures.

How soon do you think they will get their baptism of dice?
