Picture an idyllic Middle Eastern backwater, a quiet land of mixed topography ranging from desolate desert and scrubland with isolated villages and small holdings interspersed with towns who have risen through the silk trade.
The Capital Masonica Haal is a poor metropolis even by 3rd world countries.
The people are predominantly of the muslin faith having been conquered by Mohamed in the 7th century whilst he was looking for somewhere to grow his favourite fruit…the pomegranate! The remains of such fancy can be seen across the country with groves and production of pomegranate oil distilleries abounding.
Idyllic is no longer the word for Geordiestan since the recent troubles across Afghanistan, Iraq and other small nations. Encroaching across the country have been insurgents of various hues and distinction (if it can be called that) with foreign fighters, fanatics prevalent in most districts.
In this mix are tribal feuds, political as well as religious factions and opportunist private companies
The government is as can be seen in many small nations corrupt and despotic in nature, they have taken the advantage of an uneducated population to strip the nation of it`s resources or so they thought!
A Swiss scientific team researching the pomegranate have discovered that in the distillation process, produces what can only be described as a super fuel, cheap, environmentally friendly and readily available for little outlay in production. Amazing you would think, the world is saved, the ozone layer will heal, fossil fuels are a thing of the past, this can be replicated across the continents to benefit mankind and the earth but no….
What seems to have been established is that Mohamed had green fingers and knew a good growing landscape when he saw one. It would appear that there is something in the soil rather than the pomegranate itself that produces such a high yielding fuel source. All other attempts across the world have failed to produce anywhere near such an effective fossil fuel substitute, results have been low grade, spoil with a short shelf life or failed entirely to perform in vehicles with such efficient and reliable results…….So this is the scene before us all dear reader
The West Mobilises
The United Nations and NATO believe they now need to turn their attentions to save the peoples from the insurgents and corrupt government and so.. Ahem have offered military support as well as humanitarian aid
The Americans have already inserted MARSOC teams to work with the locals in removing local warlords and terrorist cells form the south of the country
USMC Division is now sitting on the outskirts of the capital which is held by Government led rebels awaiting the green light to clear the city and assist the minority Sunni Delite coalition
The British are playing their part too with Special Forces Squadrons quelling the Insurgents in the south East of the country supported by the Spearhead British Paras on policing and peace keeping duties
Small contingents are being promised by many first world countries however the first to commit beyond the British and USA is Canada who have established a base of operations in the South West of the Country
The Bear Came over the Mountain
In the north can be heard the re-awakening of the Russian juggernaut, hoping to dominate and snatch their piece of territory within Geordiestan, they have sent a Combat group so support a small faction of Communist militias who have suffered under the current regime since the collapse of the Soviet Union, for the Russians the interest lies within their Socialist communes who produce vast quantities of the Fuel, work has already begun on establishing a pipeline through to Russia
The Yellow Peril
Nothing has been heard as yet of the Chinese republic however reports and snippets of information in local markets abound of Chinese troops working alongside Russians and local leaders in the North West of the country
Capitalism
Dotted around the district a number of multinational organisations, some who first tapped into the development of the distilleries, others from large oil corporations, whether these are aligned to their nations of origin remains to be seen however they do not come with beads and wampum as in the days of empire they come with PMC Contractors and wads of cash!
It is now Spring, for the Stani, militia, government forces, local warlords and insurgent groups, this is now Fighting Season!!!!!
