On The Edge ...

On The Edge ...

The frozen city of Felstad was a long way away from the archaic, swampland  ruins ...

The Tribe, lead by Kuac the Elementalist and his apprentice, Hynir, had followed the runic wayposts to the sacred location - only to discover another retinue searching for the vary same vessel - the Lamp of Trelume.

This is the first game of our 2017 Campaign and we thought we would ease the new parties in by playing the "Genie in the Bottle" scenario!

Fellow LAF member , The Somnambulist, playing his Summoner warband.

Caution was exhibited by both groups as they probed into the ruins and overgrown, mosquito infested swamp land.

Strange incantations were heard across the swamp land as the leader of the Summoner's group suddenly seemed to preempt Kuac's every moved (successfully cast "Awareness").

Kuac led his group straight towards the first treasure, grasped it, shook it ... nothing happened. Meanwhile, Hynar's group did exactly the same, grabbing the treasure but not waking the Genie.

Spying an interesting looking object, Kuac, managed to bring it closer to Serane the young thief, who ran forward to grab it.

As the Summoner group came into view, Kuac orders his trust wild cat to attach the opposing wizard. The cat happily stalked off for its prey. Seeing more of the Summoner's followers appearing Kuac decided to give them a present - the imp, was happy to see the Summoner group and closed for the attack. Hynar, following his Masters lead also managed to summon up another imp for the Summoner group to tackle.

Again, strange incantations were heard across the swampland and Hynar's head began to buzz; his vision was blurred as the Summoner brought forth every mosquito in the swamp to circle around Hynar (successfully cast Plague of Insects). The Summoner's apprentice, watching young Serane stealthy returning with the treasure, stopped him in his tracks. The Apprentice had brought forth long dead bones which clawed at Serane's legs (successfully cast Bones of the Earth).

With the light failing and no genie appearing the two groups left the arcane ruins ..

A good introductory game for a new group - we had agreed before the game that no random monsters would be used and the genie would only materialise on the prescribed die roll. Luckily for both parties, neither of which had magical weapons, the genie stayed firmly in the bottle.

Three treasure tokens each and all members of both parties surviving the first encounter.

All the terrain, apart from the river, supplied by The Somnambulist. The Summoner group made up of official Frostgrave wizard and apprentice, with a group of Crooked Dice "Shiva" henchmen. The Elementalist's group are mostly Grenadier Barbarians or Copplestone Casting's Cavemen.

Fun game by the looks of it. Nice to see were not the only people gaming in the jungle with frostgrave.

Thanks Guys,

@dartfrog - it's a useful alternative setting, especially with Ghost Archipelago on the horizon.

@Knabe - the story's vertually write themselves whilst playing; it's such great fun.
