28mm Sloop of War
« on: August 29, 2017, 06:56:48 AM »
Hi again all,
New project is a sloop of war...single masted and gaff rigged. Everything is scratch built, except the .38 cal shell casings I used for a mast support. the cannons are cone shaped bead caps, plastic tubing. cardbord, seed beads, mini grommets and craft sticks.
The rest of the ship materials are foam core, cardboard, wooden dowels, heavy thread, craft sticks, brass tube, and a cut down charm for the crown on the stern...also scale chain for the rudder chains. It's not meant to be a "spot-on" historical representation of anything but I did do some research to get it to look as it should and not so large as to take up too much space on the game table.
Oh, and the mast and rat lines along with the bowsprit are removable for transport.

These pics are AWFUL, as I had rainy overcast skies the other day, I do hope t get better pics, and more details in the next few days, so STAY TUNED....

As always, ANY and ALL criticism is welcome!!
Cheers,
Carl

That its very impressive :)
I especially like the cannons, could you describe how you made them and/or a link to the materials you've used?

My only criticism would be that the front end/forepeak is a bit plain, have you considered some curly bits like on this ship? http://www.firelockgames.com/product/sloop/

Hey Munindk,...........................yeah, I still have to put on the prow...I may do some scrolly accent, but I'm not sure...I still have to place the anchors and anchor perches too.......we shall see what shakes out tho...and thank you for the link...andthe cannons...i'll set up some pics to show how i made them...pretty simple, but a little time consuming.
Cheers,
Carl

Thank you very much y'all!!...

It was a fun build...first scratch built sailing ship I've done and was a learning experience!!!
I have a square rigged two masted brigantine up next that needs sails made....but may finish that up after another few projects I really need to complete.
Anywhoooo, take care,
Cheers,
Carl
