Mind-boggling Aztec game at Salute
« on: March 31, 2009, 04:44:40 PM »
I've just been looking through some online reports of Salute. Did anyone who went see this incredible Aztec & Conquistadors table?

Oh boy, that's really something!

Many more pictures here (Aztec pics start at photo 531 as you scroll down):

Was that a game or just a display table? I can't see anyone able to reach the center of the board to move anything.

It is stunning nonetheless!

I didn't bother taking any pics as I figured it was just a revamp of the 2007 game

Is that second one by Troop of Shrew? The first thing I thought of when I saw this Belgian one yesterday. Both similar and both very very impressive. Is it Lowtardog who knows the Shrew guys? I am sure he can tell us.

The second one is by Troop of Shewe :) from 2007. The first picture is of a game put on by some very nice chaps from France. I had a good chinwag with them. They scratch built a lot of it themselves and used some buildings from Monolith hences some of the similarities me thinks.

They had a lovely display and the game represented La Noche Triste (the night of sorrows/tears0 which is where Cortes tried to break out form Tenochtitlan.

Most of the figures appeared to be Outpost with a smattering of Foundry and TAG. They conveyed the chaos of the flight very well.

Next year Neil and I are planning (already) a different Invasion ;D and seige

It was indeed a stunning table. I got some pictures of it as well on my website:

By the way, those Belgians and French were actually Dutch from The Hague  ;)

I must confess, like Matakishi, I had just assumed it was the same game again.
It was only when I bumped into Lowtardog and he told me it was a totally different set-up that I realised it wasn't. The two do look remarkably similar, which is a shame in some ways, because I'm sure a lot of people would have just glanced over it and assumed it was a retread of the Troop of Shewe game...  :(

Which probably means it didn't get the attention it deserved.

Me too, I thought the same thing, both exceptional looking games though. :)

Both tables are amazing. If they are by the same person, maybe the second is an expansion on what was started on the first or something.

Not to hijakc the thread, but does anyone know where to find good Central/South American terrain in 6mm?
