Right you are, then. In that case never mind. Possibly I was guilty of obsessing over the details a little too much. Sorry about that. :)

no worries, in order to actually use your obsessiveness, could you point me at some web pages on british victorian cavalry uniform?

I'm afraid I don't know of a convenient one-stop shop that would meet your requirements on the web, such a site would be cool indeed.

You could try the Zulu War section of British Battles.com. They have some colour pictures there (the Ulundi page has a colour plate of Lancer uniforms for example). There is a Second Afghan War section, too, though it is possibly less useful, as it doesn't have the colour plates.

If anyone does know of any good sites, feel free to post.

There are some good Osprey books on Victorian uniforms, but of course, that means shelling out some dosh.

There are some nice pics on www.britishbattles.com/zulu-war/ulundi.htm
especially the 17th Lancers, but also mounted officers.
Re models to use, from what I hear I'd wait until Empress get theirs out before deciding  ;)

Another option, although not free, is the cd rom by Tim Reese:

I've no idea how good it is, but the cover artwork looks good enough for wargames reference, although maybe not to hang in your living room  :)

Thanks, I might save up and buy it then. They also have two more colonial titles, spanning the period from 1837-1902 and cover some of the more unusual wars, such as the Fenian Raids in Canada etc.
