David Gemmell's Troy series were a good read (well the last book was a bit shakey, but he died before finishing it so can probably be forgiven). They are heroic fiction, so take a few liberties with history, but are interesting interpretations on the heroes and causes of the Trojan War. I like his representation of Odysseus particularly.

Agreed they are wonderful books. Stella Gemmell who finished his last book has gone on to be quite the author herself.
