This is developing splendidly - nice choice of colouring, and the weathering gives the impression of an old workhorse which has spent years out in the elements.

The latest 'Critter' is now finished. I have glazed the cab and glued it in place as well as attaching the couplings.

This engine is so ugly in a most beautiful way! Great scratchbuild and awesome weathering again. I'm sure it will add a lot of attraction to the layout at every show!

With the New Engine finished, I have started painting the main groundwork and rocks. I have used some tester pots from B&Q and applied the paint with both a large 2 inch brush and a smaller finer detailing brush. There is still a lot to do, but I feel better now that I have started this part of the layout.

This latest update shows the main layout basecoated. I used tester pots from B&Q, the colours being first mixed up by me and painted on to small card samples, before taking them in to store to be mixed.

Painting was done with a large 2 inch brush and a smaller detailing brush where the rocks met up with the main structures.

Always a big moment once the whole thing has base colours.

I have spent some time, adding 'washes' to the rock and groundwork areas as well as subtle drybrushing to the top of the mountains.

In today's update, I show how I have used real red sandstone to add additional colour and texture to the narrow gauge railway layout.

Progress on applying the natural sandstone groundcover has been good with the whole layout now covered. In addition, I have started to add some greenery in the form of natural paper hanging basket covering which I have dyed with acrylic paints and glued in place one at a time.

Is the mountain meant to be solid rock (it looks like to me) or is it covered with earth? The right part looks like some muddy avalanche has happened before (roof and wooden reinforcements at track level). I can't judge rock from soil by looking at the pictures though.

This area is meant to be rock, but I have added sidings to protect the track from rock falls.
