Another piece of scratch built mining equipment for the Yellow Pelican Mining Co. narrow gauge layout, this time a Dolbeer Steam Donkey.

I simply love what you do there Tony! Your passion for details is amazing.  :-*
I found a quite breathtaking narrow gauge ore railway of yesteryear in Romania today. I thought it might be of interest for inspiration:

I've also come across this resource - Lesser Known and Obscure Railroads of Alaska. See this https://saveitforparts.wordpress.com/projects/lesser-known-and-obscure-railroads-of-alaska/

Worth checking out.

The completed layout is featured in this months Narrow Gauge World with a three page article showing the whole layout. For more information, you can pick up the magazine from W.H.Smiths.

Or see the Blog.

Woah, already! Didn't realize you were so close Tony, with a roof still off and all. Ha, clever bugger saving it as a surprise.  :D

Finished product looks excellent. Well done!

Yes. I kept recent posting back so the magazine would have the expose.

What did you use for the shakes on the highest roof? Did you cut by hand or was there something you could make or buy in strips?

They were cut by hand from a sheet of veneer that was given to me some time ago. They were then glues in place one at a time. Not easy as they kept curling up but eventually it was done.

Well, not something I can easily duplicate then. But it turned out great on the model!

I think if I was to do it again, I'd use double sided tape and apply the shakes in horizontal strips with the grain running down the roof. It would stop the curling caused by the PVA glue.
