Death Guard
« on: September 15, 2017, 04:54:40 PM »
Over the years I've had good intentions to start playing 40k and have bought many miniatures, painted few and played a total of zero games. I've sold all previous miniatures to do with the game and accepted that it's just wasn't the game for me. I mean I'm mainly a fan of fantasy rather than sci-fi. Then the new edition comes along and I fall in love with the disgustingly detailed Death Guard. Having enjoyed painting the Putrid Blightkings for fantasy I knew these would be the guys for me. And after having sat in a box for a few months I finally made a start (the new releases coming up gave me the kick up the back side).

Nicely done! I prefer your colouring to any body else's ones I've seen so far! 8) That's a cool mask on that one!

Lovely. Besides, I think this sculpt is my favourite from all that box. Really great job.

Thanks for the comments chaps. More to come soon, hoping I don't leave them in a box for another few months.

Very nice indeed! Great weather and grime on the armour and the fancy red mini-cape is a fitting contrast, I'm really looking forward to seeing more.

I keep very nearly buying this new set (mainly due to the Death Guard), but then convince myself otherwise. Threads like this are starting to give my rational brain a bit of a beating!

Another Plague Marine finished. I have way too much fun painting the grime and rust on these. I'll probably have a finished army this time next year lol

I was not so keen on these with the 'official' paintjob, finding them a little too 'cartoony' for my liking as Death Guard, but having seen yours I am coming around to the idea.
Lovely colouring-in, sir.

Although I like my DG all cartoony, these are rather excellent. :-* The metal parts in particular look very convincing. Care to share your recipes for rust and verdigris?

Thanks everyone.

For rust, I just paint the metal as normal with leadbelcher, wash in agrax earthshade. Then I water down some red/brown paint (in this case doombull brown) 1:3 with lahmian medium. The orangey rust is 1:3 mix of orange and lahmian medium. I applied it in patches on big metal areas and in streaks on the holes in the armour. I diluted the mix with a bit more medium to go around the joints in the armour.

Just superb painting. Really outstanding. Who cares how long it takes! Just keep painting.
