15mm SCifi Assault Hover Craft
« on: September 21, 2017, 12:36:09 PM »
Hello again all,
And yet another project which  I have almost finished.
http://castrarunis.blogspot.com.mt/2017/09/assault-hover-craft.html

Scratchbuilt Assault Hover Craft.
One is a small cabin light weapon 8 man craft & the other is a larger heavy weapon 5 man one.

Oh & if your wondering where i got the parts.... here's the list.

The hull is made from the plastic of a CRT monitor anti eye strain screen ( remember those mesh like ones that used to darken monitors ? ) It takes Poly glue , what more could you ask for ? :):):)
The floor is a piece of VHS video tape.
The Cabin is plaster of paris + card
The hatch is the top of a pen cap.
and the weapons & the crew are AA ones.

Perhaps you remember that beach painting I did, well the plan is to have these hover craft , a couple of converted WW2 Buffalos, Landing craft etc. to do a beach assault

Tell me what you think
Thanks for your comments.
Enjoy

Cool build! The use of bits of a VHS cassette for the floor is particularly inspired.

Truly, though I've always found that plastic a b***h to work with!

That alone has my admiration.  ;)

Thanks  Beast ,
you always make me smile with your  remarks  :D
I guess everyone has his favourite material ( for eg. Wood hates me  :( )

I used to look at other peoples' scratchbuilds & didn't know where to start  but once I took
The plunge  i never looked back.

Believe me polystyrene IS a very friendly material BUT tools are half the job.
Get the right ones & you will succeed. ;)

I'd heard the cassette shell used a different plastic, but that might have been older tapes. Back when I tried cutting, it was tougher than any PS, and most ABS I'd tried, and I hate working on a really strong ABS.

Still admire your result, and I'm happy with 'if you can't be handy, be amusing...' I've given up on the whole 'if you can't be handsome...' thing. ;)

Thanks again Doug.
For sure you are witty, which for sure is a good thing.:D
VHS cassette plastic is in fact a form of ABS doesn't take poly glue but superglue.
As i said before in other posts, i do a lot of diy so by neccesity i have a lot of tools.
By far the best tool i have for cutting plastic, limestone, wood & plaster of paris precisely & effortlessly,is my fine toothed japanese saw ( made in EU  ;) ).

I had got around 3 different ones from Lidl.Worth every cent.
