Brilliant, I will have to get some of the Beastmen to go with the bits from the range I've already bought. Really enjoyed painting the Ent.

Good question, no idea. It may be that Conquest Games are literally waiting for pics of the painted models so they can put them on the website.

Mike at CG quite openly said these guys are Broo by any other name and I can see them being a good proxy in Runequest for those goaty faves.

Yet more good things here, splendidly painted as ever.

I may hold off on the not-broo for now, as I have a bunch of unpainted broo-like beastmen from one source or another... But I can see them being useful down the line.

Expect I'll pick up the wealdgeist soonish, though (if I ever finish painting my ent, that is).

Full marks to CG for the growing range!

These are gorgeous, my wood elves of old wish they could have played with these. I think a green man is in my future. Lovely natural looking paintjobs!

A couple more additions from Conquest Games to plump out the Wealdgeist - 4 more Elves and a handsome new Ent.

More Conquest Games mythological figures from British, Germanic and Scandinavian folklore, all in metal.

First up are the Svartalfar - literally the Dark Elves, nasty subterranean creatures much like goblins. These guys are about Halfling size.

And then the deeply disturbing Grindylows - slimy water demons with an unpleasant habit of guiding unwary travellers to their doom in swamps and snatching children from the side of dangerous pools.

Brilliant paintjobs!

Lovely figures too - those svart-alfar look to be straight outta The Weirdstone of Brisingamen - even down to the nose variations and the stone hammers. And that's no bad thing at all!

The best Garner svarts available to date have been the old Citadel Lesser (great) Goblins. But while they have nets, they have metal weapons. These fellows, though, are spot on.

The grindylow are great too: that's a nice little RPG encounter right there.

You know, sometimes the heavens align. I can't thank you enough - I've been trying to think of that story for ages now but I couldn't get more than a couple of details in my head and couldn't remember the title. I read it once as a kid and have been trying to sieve through my flimsy memory to find it ever since! Thanks for that - time to hit Kindle!

You're very welcome!

It's a deeply strange book - quite uneven in places, but powerful and scary too - spooky and extremely claustrophobic in places. And the ending is astonishing.

I think Alan Garner disowned it and the sequel (The Moon of Gomrath) for a while, but he wrote a third book in the series a few years ago. It's an adult novel, and it asks the question: "What would happen to a kid who underwent (or thought he underwent) an eerie supernatural adventure?". The answer? Massive psychological trauma!

The kids and I read through both Weirdstone and Moon as bedtime stories recently: they both loved them. There's loads of other great Garner stuff if you don't know it (Elidor, The Owl Service, Red Shift, etc.).

Both my kids love his Folktales - retold fairy tales from around the world, half of which were originally published in the late 60s as The Hamish Hamilton Book of Goblins. I remember it well from the public library of my childhood.

Very nice work on the Svartalfar. Love the moss tones on the ents.

I get the impression he's another one man band operation. Don't worry about not being answered on email, he takes three days to answer me as well!
