Band of Brothers... or Nest of Vipers?
« on: September 27, 2017, 07:19:48 PM »
When playing wargames, we assume that the commanders of the same nation are pulling together as a team. It seems like what should be happening. But a close look at many actual armies in combat shows a different reality.

And the glorious general led the advance
With a glorious swish of his sword and his lance
And a glorious clank of his tin-plated pants. - Dr. Seuss

Various sets of rules allow for less than reliable subordinates. I well remember (in the days of flank marches) a beautiful
reserve cavalry force hidden behind a low hill in the centre of the battle field. All game long the sub general refused to advance, even when my opponent obligingly moved troops to cover the expected flank march and exposed a very tempting rear.
Needless to say the sub general figure was sold off (into slavery) soon after.
