best places to get 15-20mm Greeks, Celts, and Egyptians?
« on: October 04, 2017, 02:23:42 AM »
So, the Ranges and Reviews thread does a good job of listing places to find 25-32mm scale ancients miniatures, but it's severely lacking in the 15-20mm ranges. Does anyone happen to have a list of companies that make really good 15-20mm ancients miniatures, in particular for Greek, Celtic, and Egyptian armies?

If you are looking at 20mm I think you are pretty much  looking at Newline Designs (unless you want to go the 1/72 plastic route). Large range and lovely little figures

In 15mm I‘d give the War & Empire range by Forged in Battle a try.

My favorite 15/18mm Gauls/Celts are from Blue Moon Manufacturing:

I can also highly recommend the 15/18 Greeks and Gauls/Celts from Xyston Miniatures:

Have a look at Cutting Edge for all your Bronze Age needs.
Via Warlord Games:

They are very small and realistically proportioned, close to true 25mm scale, and absolutely gorgeous! Check them out and I think you might enjoy what you see.

I have some of their celtic warriors and they do look really good. The problem is that I'm wanting armies that look like proper big armies. Doing that in 25mm+ would just be too expensive and require too much room. Even 20mm is pushing it, although it does seem that just like 25mm has crept up to 32mm, so to has 15mm crept up to 20mm.

I have large Armies in 20mm, almost exclusively plastic. Hat, Italieri, Airfix, Zvezda and even some old Atlantic stuff. They are fleshed out with a few Newline metals. As one might expect, they vary somewhat in quality, particularly the old Airfix stuff, but they look OK en masse.

If forced to pick one, and only one, manufacturer, I'd go with HaT as they produce figures for wargames, not primarily as toys.
