Rule Sets
« on: February 17, 2007, 11:24:53 PM »
What rule sets does everybody use?  I have quite a bit of Streets of Violence from Foundry that I got in trade that I am finally painting.  Wanting some rulesets that would go with it.  Also, I love zombies, so they would hopefully have a conversion for zombies.  I was liking the .45 adventure ruleset, would require a little conversion.  Any ideas?

Thanks
Dave

For Sci Fi I use Combat Zone but have also used Chain Reaction2

both have conversions for Zombies (combat zone free site whilst the CR2 rules have some already but also specific All things Zombie)

Occult wars rules work well for small skirmishes and as stated are horror based but would work ok as human/human  :)

I'd also like to know more about Combat Zone.

It's sold by EM4, who are also selling the old figures for Kill Zone. So the CZ rules are maybe just the KZ rules with a different name?

Please tell us, Lowtardog!

Sorry gents missed the posts.

Combat zone,

quite a nice little set of rules, no not Killzone rehash.

The rules are designed for gangs around 10-20 a side. The basic set has lists for Corporate gangs and street gangs with plenty of options and equipment. There are a second set which develops a campaign thread (like necromunda) with skills, additional equipment, Robots and other gang types such as cultists, army etc

the mechanisms are retty simple and deadly making for a fast game.
figures are grouped as either Heroes or normal members with skill levels which help or hinder activation etc

actions are based on Action Points which have values for movement, firing, loading etc.

I havent got the plastic figures as you can but the rules by themselves. The bonus is the Combat Zone Chronicles which shows the versatility of the rules , scenarios, troop types and themes.

I like to think of it as the daddy or forerunner of Necromunda, Chain reaction 2 and all the other games as it feeels right, not tooo much detail or paperwork and the price is good too. :)

I'd use Supersystem.

I ordered Combat Zone (the basic rules for £7) yesterday and it arrived this morning :)
Excellent service, looking forward to reading them tonight. Will post some more comments when I studied them more.

You should give the free (!) Savage Worlds Showdown skirmish rules a try.  I use them for Star Wars but I know folks who use them for modern, pulp, and just about everything else.

The rules are here:

And lots of conversions can be found here:
http://www.savageheroes.com/showdown.htm

Zombie stats can be found in the Savage Worlds RPG (definitely worth getting) and here: http://www.hackslash.net/?cat=6#zombie
