Knights of Dice's 1889 Mignola Avenue
« on: October 14, 2017, 02:37:01 AM »
Last week my FLGS got a huge resupply of Knights of Dice MDF terrain kits:
https://www.knightsofdice.com/store/

I had painted a few Western pieces (from some other manufacturer) a few years ago and wasn't overly impressed at the time as they didn't paint well and looked too much like theatre sets (boxy and plain). Partly my fault I think, so I decided to give this MDF terrain thing a second chance.

So far I'm glad I did.

I bought the 1889 Mignola Ave set as I'm been thinking of creating some generic urban terrain that can be used for 1930s gangster, superheroes and zombie apocalypse games:

Here are some work in progress photos, about half way through it getting it finished.

That is looking great so far.
There is a wonderful variation in tone that really brings a sense of realism to the brickwork.

Nice! 8) Their Stuff is great!

How did you achieve the white lines through the brickwork?

Thanks guys.

Andy - there's a few videos in the link, but essentially just chalk rubbed in and wiped away with a damp cloth.

It's pretty easy, Viv's tutorial is pretty straight forward - I just think the addition of a spray of matt varnish ensures you can play with washes, etc on top of it. I have been distracted by other projects, hopefully the washes will happen this weekend.

(And thanks for the comment - your stuff is amazeballs.)

Those Knights of Dice kits look like very nice stuff. I am a little leary about shipping to Canada...

I am in Ontario, and I had no issues, the shipping was very fast!
Get together with others order enough and shipping is free (or just order a ridiculous amount of stuff all on your own like I did :))

I did have a minor error on one order and they shipped out the missing items so fast that I got them within a week.

I have had nothing but great service, highly recommend!
