Gaslands - How adaptable is it?
« on: October 10, 2017, 02:13:38 PM »
With the approaching release of Gaslands, can anyone out there tell me how easy it is to 'de-tune' it (pun intended) for a more primitive era.

From what I've picked up the background for Gaslands, certainly as far as tech is concerned, is pretty similar to Car Wars, ie cars are built for war. I'm interested in a more Mad Max/Chasis and Crossbows set up where normal vehicles have been adapted, there has been a decline/loss of tech and everything is a bit more hand made rather than factory made.

Thanks in advance for your comments.

I was part of the playtest, and while there are a couple of fixes made after the last playtest document, or so I hear, I can say that it's perfectly adaptable. The default setting for the game makes use of a number of factions, with a single one of those having access to some rather high tech gear. In addition there are optional rules for "audience votes" basically simulating how this in-universe is supposed to be a televised show, and in-game working as an underdog mechanic, this allows you to activate some wacky effects such as exploding any explodable terrain, or even calling down an "executive decision" (orbital strike) but again these are optional rules.
All other weapons are very broad and in no way high tech at all. In fact, you would be sooner disappointed for the lack of sci-fi options than down to earth ones!

That's what I thought (I played one demo game at Poldercon this year).

I've been of mind to create a set of cars and a board inspired by the Rage! PC game. From what you tell us, Gaslands would be a seamless fit... 8)

Ah yes, I remember the explosion rules on car destruction getting a plied a bit liberally with literally all players dying in the end without a winner. that was a good game.  lol

More to the point you should be able to play rage with it no issue whatsoever.
