Matelots is wot they are. Jolly Jack Tar presupposes a degree of amiability mostly lacking in pussers and let's face it even matelots must get sick of all the 'Hello Sailor!' jibes. Of course if you have a stomach for the works of the late Norman Wisdom, we could refer to them collectively as 'the Bulldog Breed'.  :)

By the by, those high leg gaiters were still being used by the RN into the 1950s so quite appropriate for WW2.

Yep, I resemble that remark! We have drunk together too many times. Just as well we live almost 4000 kms apart.

Knowing Pete its more The Navy Lark than Norman Wisdom

Empress has a new set of matelots. Unfortunately they don't have cold weather gear. From what  remeber from Armed Forces of World War II the Allied forces were quite wrapped up in heavy coats and furs.

To the endless confusion of the dyslexic, the coat was the 'Tropal'. :)

Yep, the Duffle Coat is the style I would have expected but it appears that Greatcoats may have been worn as well. Jerkins are in evidence as well. Helmets appear to be the required headgear.

I'm hoping Empress will produce an RN gun crew to go with their 3.7" howitzer.

Nice, I hope they don't do them like the u-boat crew with the thick tab on the bottom.
