Ghost Archipelago - looking for that "baggage tortoise" pic.
« on: November 08, 2017, 05:59:33 AM »
I recall seeing some artwork / drawings of GA figures a while back, one of which showed a very large land tortoise with a pile of baggage on his shell, and perhaps a saddle. Thought I had saved it off, but cannot find it now. Have googled to no avail. Anyone have it or know where it might be found?

Well I sculpted this a while back and could sell a cast rather cheaply. Just add your own baggage. That link above shows a WIP scale pic against a 28mm fig.

Thanks for the offer, that's nice work on the sculpt. I have a prepainted giant tortoise already that I plan to use. I'm looking for that artwork as inspiration for sculpting my own baggage.

This is from the current Reaper Bones Kickstarter:

Happy to help.  The Kickstarter is still open for folks if anyone is interested in getting the model.  Granted, you'll have to wait about a year and a half, and the baggage tortoise is part of a much large set you'd have to pledge for:

As a quick and helpful Public Service Announcement: I love my Bones miniatures, I have been making Frostgrave warbands out of them, and though you can paint directly on them I would HIGHLY recommend an undercoat.  My favorite is liquitex black gesso.  Brush on, it seals in, I don't have to worry about the vinyl plastic reacting poorly with anything I sprayed on.  After that, I could spray or brush on a sealer without incident.

Miniatures where I painted directly onto the Bones material got sticky after I sealed them when I did not use an undercoat.  Would not recommend.  Problem eventually subsided, but it was a hassle.

What's (kind of) funny is I backed that KS, which is where I'm sure I saw the sketch. Sucks getting old(er)...

Kegluneq, thanks for the tip - I love the bones in concept but have been struggling with the ones that got as far as the painting table.  Two questions if I may slightly hijack this thead - (i) do you use the liquitex neat, or dilute it? And (ii) do you wash and scrub the bones before undercoating?  Thanks !

Clean up mold lines until you hate yourself, and then use it neat.  Straight out of the bottle.  If you add water to dilute it, the hydrophobic qualities of the bones material lead to a mess and weird coverage.  Using it neat, you can glob it on, and it will contract as it dries to make a nice toothy coat.  You might need to go back over a bit to cover up any spots that show, and this is part of the reason I like using the black liquitex: not only do I like building my colors up, it makes it easier to find spots where I've missed a spot.

And if you are looking for the turtle miniature in question, they are from the Dreadmere set, which has a bunch of good miniatures for Frostgrave or GA:

Since I have been slowly trying to amass a Bloodborne - Yharnam board for Frostgrave, this is pertinent to my interests and I ordered two.

Not the best mode of transportation (but so cool too.)   I'll paint mine in FedX colors for "When it absolutely, positively has to be there overnight" or in the next month or so

too funny...

here's my candidate for modification...

I also have some Snapppers that are a third the size, but I think they are too small to use as baggage animals. This guy will do nicely, and cost less than $5.

Anyarel has some beasts of burden that could well fit the bill.

Plus some reptile creatures, in the other sections
(Its a cool game too!)
