I have use it for Mantic TWD miniatures so far with out any issue. Works also fine with MDF bases.
No problem either with square bases.

Don't use it for boardgame minis with bases in softer plastic. Those springs are pretty strong.

I got mine today.  it is much smaller than I thought it was but it fits well in the hand. I placed a figure on a round lipped base in it and it holds it very firmly. As stated in my last post I bought this one on Kickstarter a while ago https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/2066522358/miniature-holders-and-grips-for-painting-and-sculp  It too works OK but sometimes the cork holder become lose and a Number of figures have fallen out  onto the ground.  The Citadel handle holds firm and is fairly inexpensive for what you get.  I will keep you informed after I have used it for a while.

I’ve not worked out why it has a standard tripod mount underneath...  Maybe a cost thing as it’s a standard size?

I have a few of them and like them fit my hand very well. I think the tripod mount might be to be able to swop the top to fit bigger bases in later?! At least thats what someone on Facebook suggested

I picked a Citadel Painting Handle up from Worcester War Games earlier today for just £4.50. My first impressions are that it is a very well made mechanism and I can see it being well used.

Checked the GW store online, to see if they still carried painting handles, and found these two:

Citadel Painting Handle XL...

Citadel Assembly Handle...

The handle looks the same as the original, so why couldn't the screw on tops be sold separately? The XL looks decent, but hoe durable is the assembly rig?

I have used my GW handle with miniatures from a lot of different manufacturers and not had an issue with it.  But for groups of figures I tend to use a cheap knock off of the Hammers Industries CorkMeister 2000 System.   :D

But have you used the one with the clips?

The standard one is solid and I've attached cork to it, for use with pinned figures...

Citadel Assembly Handle...

I sort of chuckled at this when I first saw it and then two days later I was having to hold parts of a model together hoping that the *%^$ing glue would dry and saw the use of it.

Regarding the original post, I have been using mine nonstop since they were released and the springs are still solid. I've not had any large metal minis on the handle but it manages to hold on to old Alternative Armies 28mm troops no problem. I use them for everything and I find that the size of the handle fits my hand a lot better than cork or spice bottles.

I have not used the larger handle or clips.

That assembly handle might actually be able to do some good.

I've had a LotR plastic Gondor horseman with a broken horse leg (the only one connecting it to the base) sitting around in my 'to be repaired' pile for a couple of years, as I haven't been able to think up a way to secure the parts for poly cement to settle.  o_o
