Princess Aura's Rocket Corvette
« on: 11 April 2009, 02:16:57 PM »
Someone, on some forum, posted about converting a Bat-skiboat to an Imperial Rocket Corvette, Mongo-style - but can I find it?! Anyone got any clues, or, preferably, a link to this post?

Yeah that looks cool - pass the Bat Shark-Repellent

While I love a lot of the stuff that Cmdrkiley has done in that post (especially his Heroclix conversion/repaints), I don't think the minor conversions on the Bat Skiboat (mostly Dark Eldar bitz) really add anything to the model. I think it works pretty well as an ornate space launch right out of the box...

Thanks, guys! I'm going to see if I can get one of these...it'll fit right into some pulp-SF universes - Crimson Corsair, does this look a bit like your ship? (Sorry, in-joke!)

I picked one up myself, Grif (although I haven't done anything with it yet).

Far too sleek and stylish for Dex of course... ;)

Got any suggestions for his disreputable ore-hauler...?

Now, that's a difficult one, Dex - er, I mean, Heldrak! It would need to be ungainly, scruffy, yet streamlined in the pulp tradition, and have a bay for a shuttle, not to mention be big enough to hold all those slaves that Dex and Grif will be uncomfortably allied in freeing; we might have to make use of the concept of "scale compression", whereby a battleship for 28mm figures is reduced to the size of a yacht in order to fit onto a tabletop river! This one may need some thought...

I wouldn't worry too much about the streamlining...

I envision it as big and boxy, rather like a garbage truck (in space!).

Remember it's essential to Dex's character that he has to slink around in a disgraceful scow while everyone else gets to tool about the universe in sleek and shiny new toys... >:(

I wouldn't worry too much about the scale, either. For representation on the table top the ore-hauler can be placed offstage, or the open door of the cargo bay can be represented by a model of a gate or gangplank on one board edge.

"Scow" is a great word.
Scow scow scow.

It's also meant to be a measure of Dex's supreme piloting skill that he's able to perform miracles of astro-navigation with such an ungainly craft... ;)

"Looks like a fish, moves like a fish, steers like a cow."

Was that intentionally a pun on steer (cattle) and cow, or am I reading too much into it? And did Zapod Beeblebrox say it?

Yes, yes, and it was Ford Prefect, I believe.

How about this, Dex? Not very pulp-y, but it seems to fit, somehow...
