Warfare 2017
« on: November 19, 2017, 12:20:14 PM »
Yesterday was a very pleasant day spent in the company of good friends visiting the 38th Warfare hosted by the Wargames Association of Reading.

If you would like to read my thoughts on the day together with pictures of the games that caught my eye then just follow the link to JJ's

The Earlswood game was head and shoulders above the rest which, I thought, were poor.

The man behind the ACW game and builder of all the terrain is our ‘Alcal’ - member of this forum. Simply stunning terrain maker and jolly nice chap - very modest and good to chat with.

I am not going again next year - was bored/crushed/too hot/ rucksack bashed and wished I had stayed at home and painted.

Yes, that ACW game is stunning and not surprised to hear its AlCal’s work.  It’s not just the general quality, it’s also that the layout of the fields, roads, vegetation all looks so natural.

And yes, he’s a good chap to chat to, gave me some helpful advice on teddy bear fur terrain at Partizan  :)

Yes, that was the standout table. A couple of the others were pretty reasonable I thought. And then a fair few distinctly average ones. But then there can’t be more than 20 or so demo / participation games there. Warfare is mainly the shopping hall and the competition gaming hall. Exhibition games are very much the junior partner at this particular show, so perhaps that’s why they aren’t much to write home about...
