I've just posted the briefing and OOB for a re-fight of Ilipa 206 BC using To The Strongest.

There are quite a lot of photos in the post for the figure junkies amongst you.

This looks an epic game with some great photo's, could I ask you how many packs of cards did you use? Did the rules cope well with this large amount of units?

Thanks Johnp4000. The game works well with this amount of units. We don't use card decks. We use numbered MDF chits by TTS and War Bases instead (because they are smaller and less obtrusive than cards), but to answer your question each side has a bag of two 'card decks' worth (80 chits, 8 x 1 - 10).

Most impressive battle. I wonder if using more than one set of cards wont disrupt some of the gamemechanism. We only use one set of cards and therefor have a better view over which cards have been used. I always gathered that this was part of the game and a way to compensate for some of the randomness in a cardsdriven game.

What are your thoughts on this. I can see from your blog, that you have played TsS qiute alot.

Hi Erik,

You're playing it wrong, I'm afraid.

under the section "Playing cards and markers", second paragraph:

"Each player should take two standard packs of playing cards and separate the numbered 'pip' cards from the court cards and jokers. The resultant pack of eighty cards is called the activation deck....."

Less than two decks of cards makes card counting too easy - with eight aces anything can happen!

As always a great inspiration, i do hate you some times lol

TtS is a very good set of rules and I have just ordered a large  cloth for it, 10cm squares for my 15mm armies.

Keep up the inspiration please
