Japanese shrine scratchbuild for Bushido
« on: December 10, 2017, 12:12:20 PM »
When I managed to get my grubs on a Rise of the Kage kickstarter pledge last year, it contained the cards to use the models with the Bushido skirmish game. Since the buy-in for that was basicly just the rulebook and some cards, I, offcourse, got into that as well.
And, by Jolly, is it an awesome game...
Simple rules, yet plenty of debt. Lovely models, yet you only need a few for a game (3-7).
And you can probably play two games a night.
Sinds it only requires a 2 by 2 playing area, my mind was set on a japanes garden.
I want to inlcude a stone garden, cherry blossoms and a pond with a bridge and koy carps.
But first I got to work on a shrine.

And boy, what a project that turned out to be....
I actually made a building plan. That was a first.
But actually having little to no experience with balsa and having a blueprint that was..... basic, I kept running into problems I needed to solve.
Also, my new job took a serious bite from my hobby time, so it's been a couple of months.

Still, pretty pleased with the result.

The centerpiece of the inside was offcourse the Butsudan altar. This was a new challenge. The altar itself is just some more wood, but I needed some items to put onto it. At a very opportune moment one of my brushed expired beyond any use. The metal funnel found new life as a vase and bowl, while the round wood in the funnel is now a candle.
This was actually loads of fune to make and makes me desire to make more small items like this for  interiors.
You know, 'cause I need more projects..... o_o

Thanks both.

Yeah, the tiles where a bit of a B%^&7 to make, but worth it in the end.
That was a messy, messy process

Awesome stuff; it's even more impressive in real life. You've got to show it with a miniature to give it a sense of scale, because it's huge! 8)

And congrats on being featured on Beasts of War with your shrine!

Now for that inaugural game... :D
Miniatures you say? Well I too, like to live dangerously...

This is a wonderful build! Really well done, and I love peeking through into the butsudan. A table centrepiece.

And I agree about Bushido – great game with surprising tactical depth, doesn't need many figures, and most of the official models are really characterful little sculpts.
