Never too late to start a Frostgrave warband (or two)
« on: December 11, 2017, 02:28:09 PM »
I've been wanting to take my first steps in this game for a couple of years or so. I've finally got my hands to it. You know, it's never too late :P

I got the following mini from the first DieHard Miniatures Kickstarter. When I saw it, I envisioned the character in red and green, and I thought of a certain magical person, but in the classical depiction, before CocaCola designed the fat man in red (tm)

His true name was forgotten in the mists of time. Most people call him Klaus, Klaas or other variants, it depends on the country where you ask. Some people just call him 'Father'. His origins are also unclear. Some rumours and legends say that he comes from the South, the warm, mysterious South. Most people believe instead that he dwells in the eternal ice of the distant North. Truth is elusive.

Many years ago, a pact was sealed. He took an oath to pay tribute to the Men. It is still a matter of debate if this was done wholeheartedly or if it was a result of the dark war who confronted the Realm of Men and the Realm of Faerie. The only thing that is a fact is that he is compelled to pay a tribute every year. Every single year, the night before Christmas...

Now, who would be part of Mr. Klaus Warband? Who will be his companions into the frozen ruins to ransack old pieces and treasures that would eventually become the presents this mysterious Wizard has to gift the humans? Well, tradition speaks of Elves...

All the Warband is from Otherworld and Northstar. Here, the Apprentice:

She's casting these rare spells known as 'Carols'

Three thieves, an archer, a treasure hunter...

...and a barbarian called Rudolph:

Here you have the whole warband:

I honestly have to admit I have no clue of the actual gameplaying, as I've only read the Frostgrave rulebook, but never actually played (yet), so I'm not that sure, for example, of what Wizard type better suits this particular magic user. Chronomancer, as he delivers the gifts all over the world in just one night? Illusionist, as he manages to bear the magic of Christmas among this dark realm? Thaumaturge, as he pretends to peacefully accomplish his mission? If any of you has experience with the game, I'd appreciate your thoughts on the subject!

BTW, If I've built this bizarre warband, what kind of rival may they face? Who would dare to oppose such colourful Elves? That's the next part of this project. This Otherworld Chieftain Gnoll will be the Grinch himself ;D:

I promise this Christmas I'll play the weirdest, silliest game I can come up with :D

Excellent! That is a very inspiring idea. I immediately started to develop plans in the back of my head to buy more lead...must resist...must resist...

Wow!!     :-*
I am certainly impressed with the awesomeness presentation of your warband!

My mind is immediately creating a scenario where the evil Jack Frost (wizard) along with the Grinch (captain) and a bunch of minions (not quite sure what you would use maybe some gnolls or ice trolls or something along those lines) anyways they are trying to stop ol' Klaus and company from completing his quest to pay tribute.  You could probably even make it a mini campaign like 3 parts. Part 1: break into Jack Frosts castle and retrieve the tribute that he has stolen. Part 2: escape the castle. Part 3: after escaping the castle now you have to get to your magical sleigh on the opposite side or middle of the table and complete your mission so you can pay the tribute.

Anyways that's what I was thinking of so if you decide whether or not to use my ideas make sure you post pics.
As always happy gaming

Great idea and well executed! I believe someone makes 28mm evil snowmen as well as kids throwing snowballs. The kids could be the ones on the naughty list getting their revenge.

Thank you all! :)
Oh, I hadn't thought of Jack Frost! :o I think that (at least for the moment) I'm sticking to the Grinch and Gnolls warband, as I already have the minis (yet to be painted ;D) and I'm in need of scenery and stuff, but I'm completely against the calendar if I pretend to be playing it in a couple of weeks or so. But there are some really cool ideas there I may use! Thanks!! :)

Love the themed warband! If Chronicles of Narnia can co-op Santa/Father Christmas/Cris Cringle, then why not you...?  lol

Neat idea  :D

For opposition, how about the naughty kids?  The savage schoolgirls from Crooked Dice might work.
