15mm sci-fi tiles Mos Eisley LANDING PAD FINISHED
« on: December 13, 2017, 03:34:11 PM »
I've begun working on some flat tiles for a 15mm Star Wars project, based on the back alleys in Mos Eisley.

I've got a ton of inspiration for this project from two important members:

and

My hope is to make some easy 15mm transportable terrain.  Here is the beginning:

I've already cut and textured the tiles.

Lovely job - those sketches are ace. I keep meaning to buy an isometric drawing pad for sketching terrain. The idea of basing a crowd together is good, I think I'll try that. Can't wait to see this develop - particularly interested to see what you do got street furniture and clutter.

I am really liking those sketches! Did you use watercolours for the colouring?

I will need a few piles of jawa junk!

I just use a tone pen.  It's great for shading black and white drawings.  You can get warm and cool grays as well.  I decided to add regular pencil crayon to help with the painting ideas.

I'm going to try and keep this project small as I am low on funds.  I plan to repurpose as much as I can.

Well, it works greatly! Do you have a link to what you're using exactly?

Sounds neat.

Might have to steal that for the larger, 32mm Clix figs, and put some Sandtroopers on patrol to root out the rebel sympathizers known to be present there.

Made a little progress yesterday.

Some small terrain by oldben1, on Flickr

First off a few domes to tie in with some of my Brigade Model desert domes.  I looked at a couple of screen shots from the film and I noticed that many of the buildings have smaller domes clustered in the alleyways.  They will also break up the crates and pipes and market stalls.

I also made 2 junk piles.  They are probably not dirty enough but at 15mm scale it's hard to see the details.  I'll probably finish the ground tiles tonight.  I think I need one more.

I also need to start my market stalls which I am dreading.  I've made market stalls a few times over the years and they are always a fiddly mess!

I am trying to keep the number of models at a minimum.  This is supposed to be a quick project.

Looks lovely - 30cm square? I really like the boards you made for Star trek, so stoked to see this develop.

This is a tile from something else, although the color and texture will be identical.  The largest tiles will be 6 inches by 6 inches, with lots of thin pieces for alleyways.

SOme progress this evening.  It helps that I can work at lunch in the wood shop.

Tiles of Mos Eisley (And some small terrain too) by oldben1, on Flickr

I finished the tiles, pretty simple mdf/spackle/rocks and sand/drybrush.  They still need to be clear coated.

Finished some 10mm Brigade models domes as well.  A little small but will fit in in the back alleys and half the price of the 15mm ones.

Some sturdier moisture vaporators too.  They are not perfect copies but will work with my Westworld stuff too.

Walls from Angel Barracks.  I will use the gate for the Imperial checkpoint.

I think I figured out the market stalls.  I'm going to use pizza tables!  Plastic, study and not finicky gluing.

These look great mate. Ace idea for market stalls - you mean the wee plastic things that come in the middle to prop the box lid and keep it off the toppings yeah? I'm stealing that idea.
