What glue to use with etched brass parts?
« on: April 16, 2009, 11:48:58 PM »
I'm building a Russian 1902 AA gun, used by them in WW1. The kit has etched brass parts which I've never worked with before. I'm wondering what glue to use? The brass parts will be attached to the normal type of hard plastic you get in kits. I'm thinking I should use super glue but I'm not sure. Advice?

Aye - superglue. PVA will work but you will not want to wait that long.

Very intrigued by the kit. Injection moulded plastic with brass etch - what scale/manufacturer?

standard cianacrilic glue should work, but sometimes it gives some problems... be careful to have a plain surface, to avoid any kind of empty space. Dunno why, but whith copper sometimes it make strange things,..

Hi, Dafydd

There's a new acrylic formula glue, Gator's Grip Hobby Glue, designed for photoetch that apparently is quite the thing.  I bought a bottle last year  ::)  but haven't really had a chance to test it.  (Isn't procrastination wonderful?) You might want to check it out here.

Here's the full review.  (Link is also on site.)
