It is coming together very nicely, sir.

Although I do think that you need to alter the title in the opening post now.

Lol. You are probably right there. I still plan on making the processing scene though.

So I worked on the arms today. I was really not wanting to do the fingers but seeing as they will be so small I didn't need to put too much detail into them. I also overlapped them so that they will have some strength during printing and also after printing (don't let the three year old get it).
Close ups of the upper arm, forearm and hand, in that order.
Very shortly I'll be putting it all together.
I'm also thinking I may do a tougher looking version of this guy to fill out my fantasy golem stuff.

Thanks. :)
Here are some "assembled" pictures.
I will probably print it in pieces (got to figure out the best way to do that.

:) Thanks.
I like the simplicity and uncertainty of the face. It really goes well with Ill-advised.

Printing is underway! Stupidly I didn't take any photos but will try to remember when I go and collect it. I printed 2 off. One is 46mm tall the other 60mm. I'm thinking the smaller one but we'll see. Printing at 100 microns on "fine" speed (so basically it is slower for better results) It will take 7ish hours to print both of them.

He looks a bit sad, poor big guy  :'(

Curious to see the texture of this - and how he turns out in the plastic.

First print didn't work. It was too hot indoors so the filament stopped extruding (apparently that can happen) I opened the lid up to add some extra ventilation and it printed fine. Just the small version at the moment. I have the big one going now.

I had to get my hand deep inside (calm down now) to get this shot. I made sure not to get too close to the printer head as I didn't want to bump it and wreck the print.

Done.

You can see the support material around this that keeps overhangs from drooping down. One print I did on Turbo once (A yoda head pencil holder) knocked a support over and destroyed the print.

I still have to tidy it up some but a pretty tidy print as is considering its size. The line across the leg is a mess.

That looks like it’s going to be a LOT of work to smooth out! :o Is that printing at its finest level or can you make it finer again so there’s less work? Do the bumps file off easy?

Could you not have kept the design without the details and then sculpted them on, traditionally, with green stuff? Kind of use the 3D print as a dolly?

Sorry for all the questions! I’m just trying to get head around this printing malarkey!

Oh! And btw, thanks for showing us the process! Really interesting stuff!

 :o :o

Wow!
Seeing it with its support material, it looks a mess but once that is stripped away....
That is pretty damned impressive considering it sounds like you just press a button and leave it to print itself.
 :)

Still a fair bit of work to do cleaning up, by the looks of it, but I have no idea how difficult that would be.

When you see it in the flesh it looks a lot nicer. That is the problem with SLA printers though, the layers they make although 1/10th of a mm are still quite visible to the eye, especially close up with a camera. The slightly bigger version will be better as well I imagine as the finer details will have more layers to them. (I'm reprinting so it is 65mm tall.)
I've used 3d printed stuff as dollies before and yes it works well.
A bit of filing and my usual thick layers of paint should help. lol

wow! I didn't think any of the 3D ones would be at the print stage already, great work! Love the design too  :)
