BSC 2018 ichwillauch's chinese war junk
« on: December 29, 2017, 08:23:41 PM »
My entry for the Build Something Contest 2018...

In the year 1884 the chinese imperial navy was ill advised to use wooden war junks against modern french warships.

Thanks for the comments,

i want to build something for 28mm. At the moment i have to plans at the start:

The Red Dragon made by Artesania Latina. Super-Hobby is a great side, they show all relevant infos for the construction of this ship
https://www.super-hobby.co.uk/products/RED-DRAGON.html

The other plan is a Shaohsing Chuan, I ordered the german book but the plans are the most complicated i have ever seen and I am not sure if I can build something like that...

For the BSC2018 I assembled my team...

... and started with scaling up the pictures of the Red Dragon plan found on the super-hoppy side by 300%. The plan was printed and clued to 4mm plywood

After assuming a waterline, everything fits more or less together...

...but some members of the team soon show a great lack of interest...

.. to be continued...

That looks like a great start, very promising, and a good use of plans.
 8) 8)

I must say that I can only sympathise with the lack of effort. Some of my own team mates put in the same kind of shift too....
 ;)

Hey, you're meant to do this on your own.  >:(
Then again, getting a cat on your side is ill-advised, so it adds to the theme and cancels out any dog-bonus.
I should know, I have 4 cats.... :D
And - nice progress!  :o 8)

Pussy!..... he’s a slacker!

Good start! :o How easy is it to cut the 4mm plywood?

Nice project, ichwillauch! Don't know if it would be of any help, but I built that same Artesania Latina ship in kit form 3 years ago, here's the link:

For the BSC2018 I assembled my team...

Wait a second, I was told teams were verboten. Now I need to convince my wife to move up our puppy-acquisition schedule so that I too can take advantage of this "team".

The junk looks awesome, this is going to be a neat build

I've got 5 with 1 being a puppy, unless you want someone judging your arm as you try to paint it's not the kind of team work you hope for.

This is a very accurate and beautiful version of the ship!

Pussy!..... he’s a slacker!

Good start! :o How easy is it to cut the 4mm plywood?

Maybe I used a wrong word, I am using a jigsaw.

Meanwhile the decks were planked...

and the innere structure is filled with balsa to stabilize the plywood construction

next step will be to sand everything into right shape and start planking the hull
